Panny 100-300: A fine, sharp lens at 300 mm
2

I've found the Panny 100-300 to be quite capable of sharp photos at 300mm. In my experience it's as sharp as my Oly 50-200mm. Here are two examples taken with my E-M5.

Very cool. How fast does your shutter speed have to be to completely freeze the wings? 1/4000s is pretty fast. Hummingbirds look pretty hard to get AF lock on (small and jumpy).

Re: 150mm f2 + EC-20 = 300mm f4

Shot at f4.5. The new prime clean should better this at f4

I'm looking forward to this but we will still need a big aperture supertele in the interest of bokehness

I am really enjoying all the replies to this post. that dragonfly pic is just amazing. Do you use a grip on your em5?

Thanks and yes, i find the grip invaluable with the Pany 100-300mm. All the shots handheld though using the E-M5 IBIS

A big thanks to everyone who has contributed, just shows what a cracking shots can be taken at 300mm

This is one of our smaller sunbirds, which are our equivalent of hummingbirds in the Americas. Very active and quick.

This is 100%.

BIF using43

Your first shot I think is one of the best BIF using m43 I've seen.

Re: Show your 300mm pics(while we wait for 2015)

I've used the Pana 100-300 since it first came out about 4 years ago. I used it initially on the GH1 and on the GH3 since December 2012. It may be my imagination but I think the lens was sharper on the GH1 than on the GH3

One of my biggest uses is for nature. While I could post a few top shots showing the sharpest of the sharp, in the field photography doesn't work that way. The light can be less than ideal, the wind is blowing, there may be a haze etc. This gallery of my new additions and upgrades to my bird photo life list for 2013 was shot mainly with the GH3 100-300 combo and shows the best shots I was able to obtain during 2013. http://paultavares.smugmug.com/Wildlife/Birds/U13/i-gSbHvk3

I also have a surfing picture shot with the same combo in Hawaii if you want to compare with the surfing pictures posted above. http://paultavares.smugmug.com/Travel/Americas/Hawaii/i-xHRVnM3

Cheers.

I'd love to claim it was immaculately prepared, and I spent months stalking the bird, etc, but the truth is I was merely in the right spot, at the right time. I think it was my first shoot with the 75-300.

It's now on my wall in a 50x70 frame.
