Now that it is nearly official and all the pessimistic folks can step aside,  who plans to order the G1X Mark II?

Well Jenny, it appears I was wrong, in fact I was wrong. My sincerest apologies to you my dear!

And yes, I will order one as soon as I can after the official announcement.

I think so... But a bit uncertain when... Need to unload my D5200 w 2 lenses then.  But by mid summer... Likely.

Would not exactly replace my Rx100 due to pocket ability ....shirt...smaller jacket pocket.... Or will it ?

The size (based on the leaked brochure and bestbuy specs) indicate that it will be marginally larger than the RX100II, and neither of them are pocketable in the sense that the Canon S series is.

The camera weighs over 550 grams though....... thats...... as much as my old Sony A57 DSLR (body only).... so we will need to see about the weight. It'll be like a small brick.

Depends on the previews. If the autofocus is quick enough and the image quality is at least as good as the original G1X's, very likely I will.

But what about you? Do you plan on buying it?

Hi,

I own a G1X Mark 1.   As I commented in Howard's thread, I really like some of the refinements, but the Mark II is probably not for me.  Canon have taken the design direction away from external control to touch screen, and for me, that and an external EVF are enough to shift me toward a MILC.  For the $799 asking price and perhaps $150 for the EVF, it places the Mark II squarely in competition with several MILCs.   I'd happily pay more to get a built-in EVF and external controls.

Heck if there's a fire sale of Mark 1s, I might even buy a spare!!

Cheers, Rod

I have a feeling that Canon's train of thought assumes that if you will wanting external controls, you'll be getting a larger camera (SL1? T5i? 70D?). This camera seems to be in direct competition with the Sony RX100II, which is where the $$ is right now.

It's made to be small, if you don't care for the size, I guess they want you to buy a larger more fully featured camera.

I am very happy that canon has an improved G1x (is it G2x or G1x mk2 ?). I will have to see a couple of reviews before parting with any cash though. Everyone is familiar with some difficulties the G1x has, though the lack of macro and the  (slow) focus speed never was a problem for me.

I would hope that canon will include TTL flash when using manual, though they don't on any other G cameras. The G1x had a lag when using external flash....nearly a second. This is usually not an everyday problem , but it turned out to be a deal breaker when using it in  my Ikelite underwater housing. I kept the G1x, it still great camera, but sold the housing.

The question really is how much better, which the early previews hopefully will answer. Is it Olympus E-M5 competitive? Or closer to, say, Fuji X100? I'm looking forward to finding out.

Hello :

Indeed.

I believe that Canon did want to chalenge Sony RX100  .

Nowadays Canon is launching cameras for all tastes.

The EOS-M to chalenge small mirrorless cameras.

Now the  G1X M2 to challenge RX100.

The SLI to challenge Panasonig G3.., G6...;

Its the war of the mirrorless.

Though neither have the small sensor found in the Canon S series either.

Since the person I was replying to had a question about pocketability and size, I answered accordingly.

What point are you trying to make?
