That is really a surprise... but I have to say it sure seems unlikely someone would go to the trouble to fake this.

But why the Quattro name, with a True III I wonder.

The focal lengths were great.

The sensors already slightly out-perform a D800, and have vastly better images (and handling) than the Nex cameras.  As do the lenses outperform lenses for any other camera or body.  So why SHOULD either of those things change?

There are a lot of other aspects that could be much better in the newer cameras.  Even with the same sensor, a TrueIII could improve high-ISO support.

The last things the cameras need is more resolution or improved lenses.

I won t understand the need for this replacement, seriously.

Those who have the current one understand what a new model could offer.

That's the oddest part to me, I can't see how it could work as-is... but perhaps the way the lens is designed it would work.

  • The battery compartment door looks like it takes a very weird shaped battery. It has a wide groove in the middle.

Probably a three-day battery to make everyone happy at last at about batteries.

The images look fake since they are indeed CAD designs with some touch of Photoshop.

By referencing the 58mm filter thread. Quattro is really BIG.

Well done, Maple.

You know, the more I look at the design, the more it blows me away. Sigma has totally re-thought the camera grip concept and at the same time have allowed for a much bigger battery. I really don't care about the extra length as I have a feeling that the camera will be quite well balanced.

So... if this whole thing is real (and I'm getting the feeling that it is), then: Bravo Sigma for thinking outside the box!

Although it's impressive you used the filter size to craft a comparison, wouldn't it have worked as well to use the hot shoe opening which has to be a fixed size between any two cameras?

I'm not sure what to make of this.  It's something that has to be seen to be believed, or understood...

Design values..
In reply to CatchAlive, 7 months ago

As a student of engineer, I believe in Sigma's designs and values.  For example, they are indeed the first to put a larger sensor in a compact body.   From the leaked images, the Sigma values are still the same, maximum possible IQ in a compact body which is even made smaller.

The outrageous design is from the necessity of a larger battery. Where else to put a larger battery, in the grip of course.  The flat body just shows the miniaturization and progress of the electronic components on this age of the tablets and smartphones.

The images appear to me are CAD designs with probably one existing prototype.

Better have IBIS in there.

Maybe an FF foveon then it doesn't need it.

No, they don't. Not like that- it depends on the conditions. The D800 would outperform the current sensor any day for the most part in DR, gradation and of course ISO.  So a new sensor that addresses the ISO more than anything would be welcome.

It will most likely be a new sensor.

As do the lenses outperform lenses for any other camera or body. So why SHOULD either of those things change?

The sensor could move forward in ISO.  DR and RAW bitness too, but the key one to improve is ISO.

There are a lot of other aspects that could be much better in the newer cameras. Even with the same sensor, a TrueIII could improve high-ISO support.

The last things the cameras need is more resolution or improved lenses.

That I completely agree with 200%

I won t understand the need for this replacement, seriously.

New sensor
In reply to CatchAlive, 7 months ago

is my bet on these. Hopefully much better ISO.

As much as I prefer a compact camera, I still find this design interesting.

You are right. That was thick of me. I actually had thought about going by the size of the hot shoe but failed to google out the dimension. I could have scaled the hot shoe of the two images to exactly the same size. As they stand now, they look close enough in size, I think, so little point to re-do it.

more on the size comparison, based on lens diameter.

i just scaled the images based on the inner filter ring sizes, and snapped all dimensions.

I think the focus button gives it away. Why a focus button?

To change between AF and MF like it is on all the DPs.

At any rate, everything looks CGI so until I see some real photos I don't think these are real. Interesting how viral they went in the last hours though.

It seems to say 8.4V on the bottom. The SD15 batteries are 7.4V.
