How good / bad are the Samyang Lenses??

I would be interested to know if anyone has the Samyang 85mm f/1.4.

They are generally regarded optically excellent, as can be seen from the measurements at photozone.de, for instance.

However, I think most of them are FF designs made for SLR flange focal distances, which means that, when fitted to a mirrorless smaller-sensor cameras, they are rather unnecessarily large. If the size or manual focusing is not a problem for you, I'm sure they are really good.

Size of those lenses is mostly due to their large aperture, not to the flange distance.

Hi - nice to hear from you.

I have a limited budget so any alternatives to Fuji lenses would be good for me as long as the quality is good.

Are you pleased with your purchase?

I would be interested to see some photographs.

Btw, regarding Samyang, Rokinon, etc....

Does anyone think that it can be better idea to stick to Nikon F-mount versions of those lenses?

It would be easier to sell them in the future and also it would be possible to exchange them between different systems if you need that one day (E-mount, 4/3, X-mount).

If you buy X-mount version you are pretty much stuck... how do you think?

Hi - nice to hear from you.

Hello,

I have a limited budget so any alternatives to Fuji lenses would be good for me as long as the quality is good.

OK, now with a Adapter You can use the most Lenses on a Fuji Camera.

  • How much Money You are willing to Pay for a Lens ?
  • What Focal-Length You need ?
  • Are You need a Fixed Lens and/or Zoom Lenses ?
  • Is Weight a Problem for You ?
  • Are You willing to use used Lenses or only new ones ?

Please give Us some more Feedback for Help.

Are you pleased with your purchase?

Yes i love this Lens for this Rendering and DOF/Bokeh.

I would be interested to see some photographs.

OK, here some SnapShots with my old walimeX pro and new Samyang 85mm F/1.4 Lens:

Unsharp Example.

Panorama.

Regards: Carsten

Thanks for your photographs - interesting.

How much Money You are willing to Pay for a Lens ?  up to about £300

•What Focal-Length You need ? medium telephoto - 85 mm is ideal

•Are You need a Fixed Lens and/or Zoom Lenses ? fixed

•Is Weight a Problem for You ? not really but I would not want one too heavy

•Are You willing to use used Lenses or only new ones  prefer new

The reason I was looking at Samyang is, for example, the 85mm is a lot cheaper than the nearest  Fuji -  the 60mm macro.

I am also considering Samyang 85mm f1.4 for X-mount, but worried that it will be too large.

Can someone post how the lens look like on XE1/2, especially the x-mount lens?

Thanks in advance.

OK, for this Money + Focal-Length there are some Lenses:

  • Nikon AF 85mm F/1.8G with special G-Adapter (if You willing to Pay a bit more).
  • Samyang 85mm F/1.4 (Nikon AE-Version recommend) with Nikon Adapter.
  • Tamron 90mm F/2.8 macro Model 272EN.

•Are You need a Fixed Lens and/or Zoom Lenses ? fixed

•Is Weight a Problem for You ? not really but I would not want one too heavy

  • Nikon 50mm F/1.8D is light, but short.
  • Nikon 50mm F/1.4G.
  • Nikon 50mm F/1.8G, very swirl DOF/Bokeh in the Background.

Possible some other People here have some more Recommendations...

bought my 85 1.4 some years ago canon mount as that is the system i had at the time, all i can say is that to better this lens you will have to spend a lot more money same goes for 14mm f2.8, buy it you wont be sorry so long as you are comfortable with manual focus.

regards.

Since you are looking at manual focus lenses, although you have said you would like to buy new, might I suggest you look at a secondhand Nikon 85mm f2 Ais lens. It's reasonably compact, on a crop sensor it would be sharp across the frame wide open and a good example can be obtained from £175.
