You have to love the rendering of the 18-135 close ups.

Great image to make that point! Though I've had that lens for two years and it's my go-to lens, I didn't really appreciate how well it does close-up until looking at someone else's butterfly images. I was amazed! Since it was that time of year here, I tried it and found the same results (which reminds me, I still need to run a few of those through some post-processing).

Nice image; to the point. Thanks for posting.

Another beaut thing about the lens is the way it renders depth so well. Better get those images processed f22!

the 18-135 may do close-up to some extent but that is one of its weaknesses compared to its competition. isn't it a 1:5 max magnification? My 17-70mm F2.8-4.0 offers a 1:2.7 magnification, I always found 1:4 and less to be more normal and a lot less useful.

Nice shot BTW

I'm not sure what its magnification is Mike @135 but in the centre it pops nicely, certainly suitable for any but the smallest flowers.

Indeed this is quite nice.

The 18-135 seems to be pretty good for such a zoom range.

You and that lens did good. I have a question. I understand the 18-135 has somewhat of a reputation for good close ups. Do you find one focal length is better than the rest for close ups?

Dean - Excellent shot.  Very sharp with excellent color.  In my opinion, the K-5IIs nails down the best images of any Pentax DSLR to date.

Thanks Jack - I usually use it at 135 as this gives the greatest magnification.
