This topic is going to make me a nervous wreck.

I need to stop scouring the net for D400/7Dmk2 posts

Good grief Guys, if it's not patently obvious by now that there is not, nor will there be a D400, I can only guess you'll still be whining about its imminent release ten years from now.

In a few years there could actually be a "D400", but it will be an FX model, as all Dxxx cameras have been since the D700.

It was out a while now, but for some strange reason they have stuck a K-Mount on it and labeled it the K-3.

Go figure.

To put it more succinctly, i.e. without model numbers:

  • A D800 body in build quality and functionality
  • CAM 3500 - 51pt AF
  • A dedicated AF-On button
  • A DX sensor in the 24+mpx range
  • Expeed 4 signal processor
  • 8 fps with a buffer large enough to allow capture of 24 to 30 Raw + Jpeg full res images
  • all the movie junk that the video guys want

Drop a D7100 sensor in a D800 body, add an Expeed 4 processor and a large buffer and call it macaroni for all I care. Price it around $1800-2000 and I am there.

On a short side note, I just bought a D7100 and to me it has to be the best value camera for it's price point going. It is soooo close to what I really want. It will fill the gap while I continue to wait for the above.

Nikon's BIGGEST mistake... not launching the D400 and keeping it's loyal customer base in the dark!

How stupid can Nikon's marketing strategy be?!

Yep, at least now I can take a decent photo at 6400 with my current glass. I think it was Churchill that said; "They also serve who sit and wait". and you have to admit we do spend a lot of time talking about the mythical D400 - perhaps it should be renamed the "Unicorn" ? kinda has a nice ring to it.

Perhaps a future post... "I was shooting the local HS Football game last night with my Nikon Unicorn and my 200-400 at 12500 and got some great shots." Yep, that sounds better than a jumble of letters and numbers.

Actually, you just killed any reason to wait for the above, you just comforted Nikon in its nefarious scheme (they now have your money) , and you dulled your interest in having the best.

Yeah, Nikon could be like Canon - drop hints about new cameras years in advance just to string their customers along. Right now I'm not sure which strategy is better, Canon's or Nikon's! lol

Nikon and Canon have made it pretty clear.  If you're "serious", go to 35mm.

In reply to Browneye, 8 months ago

..its coming in February, the wharf is in Tasmania a big island off the southern end of Australia, too far for rumours to travel, they must know.Their info has very likely come from a disembarking ocean liner passenger with loose lips blown apart by southerly winds from Antarctica.

Roger.
