Weekend MONOCHROME #162 | 13-15 Dec | Post Yours!
Dec 14, 2013

The world always looks a little different in shades of gray - or of sepia, or of platinum, or of ...

Post a monochrome or two, taken any time, with any camera, of any subject, processed any way you like. Please post your pictures as a response to this opening message.

Feel free to comment - or not - on any of the posts. If you don't want to comment but like a photo just give it a "thumbs up".

How does the world look to you?

All developed with Phaseone Captureone and the last two were taken with the Zuiko 70-300 - who says it doesn't focus in low light

ps The middle one wasn't really B&W processed kinda like last weeks hammer.

Thanks for looking

The child's eyes drag you right in and I like the hands leading you in as well as somewhat anchoring the concept of safe from photographer interloper.

Agree with k1w1, the eyes and hands pull you right in. Perfect for B&W.

That is a beautiful photograph, Wu.  Soft tones, gentle contrast, but still sharp, in my mind's eye.  Very nice work!  Rich

Great catch, Gary. 1/800 just fast enough to leave some movement blur in the wings, which I like. Just one question. How in Hell did you get 30 inches from it? I'm impressed by that. Rich

Changing B&W conversion methods
In reply to CJackJr, Dec 14, 2013

I haven't been satisfied with my old method of converting color Raws to B&W. So, I did some reading, threw out the entire old method, and am trying a different approach. This is my first try, it will take some practice to see if I like it. Any critique will be appreciated. Rich

Nicely composed and an attractive vista.  Now where does it really go?

If it is your holiday gift she better hurry!  That has to be hard on the body, getting down on the floor to cut out a pattern.  My wife wants a big cutting table, and a sewing room, and ...

Nice capture and conversion Gary.  Now with an EM1 you would be able to sit comfortably inside, view this on your tablet or computer and release the shutter at the desired instance.

It is certainly dramatic Rich!  I assume the colour version has already been processed as the colour doesn't look 'natural'.  Don't misconstrue this because I love the look of the colour image!  If indeed it has already been processed then I would wonder if you can get to the look you were trying to get from the raw file.  In the version presented there are some artifacts around the trees, notably in the centre.  I don't know if these can be lessened by altering the work flow and still arrive at this type of look.

Your image has a different than usual appearance and that sets it apart from many of this type.
