Do m4/3s manufacturers treat us as gullible idiots

Sometimes I think we in m4/s land are treated as gullible idiots, the link below says it all £81!!!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMW-HGR1GU-K-Hand-Grip/dp/B00FZLZGU8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1386965060&sr=8-4&keywords=gm1

Simple solution: don't buy it. I can see why they separated it from the camera, though. Some buyers wouldn't want the extra bulk on such a tiny camera. If was it the price you didn't like? It's not cheap.

All personal preference.

Re: Not really, however.......
In reply to Trevor Carpenter, Dec 13, 2013

some cameras like the GH3 and EM1 are designed for the photographer whose priority is functional capability.  Other cameras, particularly the GM1 and to some extent the GX7 and EM5 have clearly been designed to incorporate additional marketing criteria such as a particular style, or price point, or size point.."the GM1 is smaller than a compact....etc".  So we see the emergence of accessory handles, thumb supports  etc which improve the functionality of the "style" cameras. Already we see on this forum reports of users putting various thumb supports on the GX7. The Fuji X cameras have had this issue from the start, with many users choosing to spend significant money on aftermarket handles and thumb supports.

I guess the manufacturers believe there is a market for "style" cameras and maybe they are right.

Disappointing, but nothing new. See how much Olympus charges for separate lens hoods for its premium lenses.

Expect just-as-good clones to crop up rapidly.

Get some stick-on rubber furniture feet
In reply to Trevor Carpenter, Dec 13, 2013

Cost pennies, weigh practically nothing, stick wonderfully well even in the tropics (where so much does not stick), can be removed without marking the camera.

How they look is illustrated below:

My current cam is the E-PL3 wih furniture feet added. I am only a week or two away from upgrading to the G6 plus a GM1 (I already have the furniture feet to hand ready to stick onto it!).

Cheers, geoff

Outside of Disneyland. . .

. . . they call it Caveat Emptor.

If it makes one angry, one wants it too badly.

If one takes it personally, they just need more time to experience and understand how society and commerce works on the outside.

If it makes one think they're being singled out for being a micro four thirds customer. . .

TINKER BELL IS DEAD!

Sorry, but it's about time that was put out there.

They are the idiots if they think people will pay that.....

You have three choices.

1- Don't but it

2- Buy it

3- Wait 20 mins for someone in Asia to make a compatible one at a 10th of the price.

It;s just that someone in the marketing department needs shooting (and not with a camera)

All accessories from all manufacturers are expensive. Imagine buying a $90 printer but spending $200 every quarter for ink refills.

It comes free with a GM1?
In reply to Trevor Carpenter, Dec 13, 2013

At the moment one could claim a free one if one buys a GM1.

If you don't buy a GM1, then you must pay 81 quid for the grip. I'd imagine this is trying to get money from strict grip collectors who have no interest in the cameras the grips are for, in order to subsidize camera buyers. A very good idea if you ask me.

The price is one thing, but how does it provide "Longer Battery Life"?

It's fiddly to take off to change the battery so you learn to be economical with your power consumption.

It's called 'battery grip' on the Amazon page. If it's a battery grip, it must extend battery life surely

Since the Panasonic website I searched doesn't list this separately from the camera, perhaps the folks who want to treat us as gullible are at Amazon. Camera retail has a history of some companies taking items that are supplied with cameras and selling them separately.
