Ok, I love my 7100 BUT am wondering what would cause noise in my photo of the moon when I am shooting at ISO100. Just wondering. So see in the blue all the noise, someone please explain

Oh, I should have said, this was from a raw image. So in raw it had noise.

According to others, the D7100 has no problems with noise in blue skies and base ISO.... so perhaps they can chime in.

I assume that it was a heavy crop and that you did not push the exposure? Did you try applying some sort of noise reduction, it looks like it may be fairly easy to clean up as it is mostly in luma.

is this view at 400% or more? Or, you must have 2500mm lens, not the  500mm as the exif shows...

cropping to this extent will reveal artifacts on any photo regardless of brand... no surprises here

Pushing +1EV doesn't help either.

Doesn't look to be too much wrong with it to me, but it could do with a bit more processing to lift extra detail.

Have you ever thought about subtracting a Dark Frame?

Saying that though, dark frames are usually only used for higher ISO's, or lengthy exposures.

Why did you expect no noise at ISO 100?

Every image has noise, and more so in underexposed areas, which will become quite evident when you lift them up. Is this unprocessed? My guess is that you increased exposure in PP, no?
