One shot only !!! The fantastic DR of the D800 really allows to grab details in the deepest shadows as well as in the brightest highlights !

D800 with 24-120 f/4 - 1/125s @ f/9.5 at 24.0mm - iso100

Very nice.  Did you have to pp to arrive at this result or is this SOOC?

Naaan.... indeed there was a 2 minutes Photoshop's SHADOWS & HIGHLIGHTS job ! ....but the details were there: I only had to gently pull them out !

Indeed, the king of DR, it's almost indecent what a D800 can do at base ISO.

I have noticed that I can pull more shadow detail out of D800 jpegs, than I can out of my 5D Mark II raw files. But don't anybody go shooting jpegs on their 800, it just ain't right.

I used to almost always shoot bracketed HDR is contrasty situations with the 5D2, but I find that by comparison a single D800 raw file has as much dynamic range as a +- 1.5 stop HDR set on the 5D2. It has been liberating and saves me many hours of work on every shoot. Money well spent. Let's hear three bracketed cheers for old 800!

Nice. My old D80 would have shown a well exposed scene in a black box here.

Even though the D800 DR is fantastic, I often find myself forced to take 5 or 7 shots bracketted, like for making spherical panoramas in a very dark church with extremely strong light entering from small windows/doors !

But, all in all, I can manage to get -almost- perfectly naturally_looking panoramas with the D800... which, although it was very good, I could never get with my D700 !

Despite the fact that I don't take DxOMark's statements for granted, I feel comforted in my choice of having bought the D800 !

OTOH, I'm impressed by the D610 results !

....and, in the same range, did DxOMark made a comparison between D800 and D800-E ?

Yes, and the 800E is very similar.  The 800E numbers are: Overall - 96, Portrait - 25.6, Landscape - 14.3, and Sports - 2979.
