The $2700 questions is does the df focus as nearly as fast as the d3s in low light and if it does I am in.

Yeah, it is about 0.5% better in DxO, never mind the margin of error, we have a nice new number now! Cheers!

I think more and more people are realizing the value they're getting for what they paid for it.  Judging from users' feedback , it seems that $2700 is not that bad after all?

I think the target market is less interested in video than the retro image Nikon wanted to project,

Even DxO was a little embarrassed to crown it the new low-light champion:

"It’s only marginally ahead of the D4 and more by luck than judgment it’s ahead of the D3s; though in real world terms the low-light capabilities are the same."

A minor difference in the ISO where the colour depth drops to 18 bits...
In reply to rhlpetrus, 7 months ago

In practical terms all of the current Nikon FX cameras can shoot excellent 8" wide prints at ISO 3200.

I have a U1 setting on my 600 where I let the camera do noise reduction (on "High") and output to JPG Medium Normal. This is my social / family / informal shooting scenario. I have Auto ISO Max set to "Hi .7". These files look just fine at "pedestrian resolution" ie small print or any average screen display. I doubt the marginal advantage of the Df would be worth $2700 to me.

At base ISO I have the better chip in my camera, if you believe the DXO data - in practice though, again, not by much at all. Just a little more resolution, but the color rendition of the D4 has always looked really really good to me - a little more refined than the output from the 600.

Maybe we really have hit a plateau in chip technology.

Of course. The Df is camera that is purchased with the heart not the head. If the Df was exactly as it is now but in a D610 body instead if the retro one everyone would be saying Nikon was off their nut for charging so much.

The people who didn't' fall in love with the look and emotional appeal of the Df and therefore didn't see it as a good value for the money simply didn't buy one so the only user reports you will see are heavily biased.

Big difference when I'm supporting a product I've used and will buy.

Those who continue to bash it are simply strange.

And the more positive news on the Df that rolls in seems to drive them batty. Sorry, that's the way it is.
