Good "adapted" portrait lenses for Fuji?
Dec 9, 2013

I've done my due diligence and searched around on this topic, but didn't find much.

I just picked up an XE1 and have the 14mm 2.8 coming in the mail. I have a Canon mount Rokinon 35 (all manual) and wondering how this would be adapted to the Fuji. If not good, I'll likely grab the 35 1.4. Clearly, the Rokinon would be on the large end, but might be worth a shot.

Otherwise, a good portrait-length lens for Fuji is a must. Wondering what folks are using as solid adapted options? Nikkors seem good, even Canon FD, but Leica is probably out for me. Thanks in advance!

Yes. I have an expensive (!) OM-FX one that was £29

Thanks - nice lens, but a little slow on a crop IMO.

My favorite is FD 55/1.2 SSC. Sharp at f/1.2, very sharp at f/1.4 - esp in low light.

I'm going to try the Takumar 55mm F1.8 when my X-E2 arrives. I already have the lens and adapter. It is a very small combo and the lens receives nothing but glowing reviews. Build quality and focus feel is as good as it gets. Dirt cheap too.

I handled and shot briefly on an X Pro 1 yesterday with a Nikon 105mm f/2 DC. That lens is AWESOME for portraits. The 135 is quite nice too but a little bigger.

The Konica Hexanon 50/1.4 and 85/1.8 are both very nice, depending upon the focal length you need.

Second the vote for the Oly 50 f1.8. Plenty fast, sharp and very light, to go with the Fuji.

With the Oly lens do you focus wide open then stop down to shoot? This is what I did when I used it on my Olympus M4/3 but I kept knocking the focus adjustment when I reached over for the aperture ring.--

in my old days of Nikon ownership that was the lens I wanted - defocus control. they're hard to get though

Voigtlander 58/1.4. Small, cheap, sharp, looks good.

Some other options are the M mount lenses, from Leica, Zeiss, or Voigtlander. Leica has some nice 90mm f2.8 and f4 that don't break the bank used... Zeiss has a very nice 50 f2 ZM (I have one)... they also have a 85 f4. Voigt has an excellent 75 f1.8 VM (I am getting one of these too). There are literally hundreds of options available.

Not forgetting Fuji's own upcoming 56 f1.2 of course...

No one likes the Minolta Rokkor 58 1.2?  I thought it was considered to be legendary.

No. With the focus peeking (sic) I can do fine up to about f5.6, which is as stopped-down as I usually go.

For portrait I use either my XF 35mm 1.4 or my XF 60mm 2.4

The 600mm IMHo is better suited since the distance camera subject is wider F 2.4 is ok for bokeh and DOF It's wise just to stay at f 2.4 since the lens is IMHO a bit too sharp after

Wow! Awesome suggestions. My email didn't notify me after the first 2-3 emails that anyone had responded so sorry I had no idea. I think I'll probably lean towards the Nikkor or Canon FD lenses because they're pretty good doubles for video too. I'm also picking up a Fuji 35 so that might actually have me covered for a lot. Thanks!
