GX7 & GM1...a pleasant surprise.
2

I received my GM1 today, and have had the GX7 for a while now.  Upon unpacking the GM1, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it uses the same battery charger as the GX7...model number DE-A99.

I should note that I ordered both of these cameras from Canada because I wanted the black versions.  They both came with the same charger...a cordless one at that.  I have read that the USA version comes with a corded charger.

Very handy for traveling to have the same charger for both cameras.

So are the batteries the same dimensions except for thickness?

Yes, I tried both batteries in both chargers.  They fit & charge the same.

That might explain why spare batteries for the GX7 are so scarce!    Actually great news.  Hopefully Panasonic is getting away from a new battery for every new model!

US version is cordless plugs directly to the wall. Blessing and curse when traveling and powers trip real estate is at a premium.

No...it just uses the same charger...not the same battery.  The GM1 battery is thinner than the GX7 battery.

I agree, Terry.  I usually bring a mini power strip and a small 1ft. extension cord.  We've all got camera & phone chargers to deal with...what a hassle!

Ready to post some pictures comparing your GX7 and GM1?

What lenses do you have for them.?

Which one will be your "go to" camera?

Sounds like a great light 2 camera combo to carry on trips.

Enjoy the cameras.

I charged my GM1 battery in the GF3 charger yesterday. Worked like a charm. Are the GF3 and GX7 batteries and/or chargers the same?

Hi. Two questions regarding these two cameras.
The GM1 has a Night handheld mode - taking several pictures being combined as far as I understand.. Does the GX7 have the same functionality?

And the GX7 has a mode where pictures can be taken by focus and shoot just by tapping the touchscreen, right? Does the GM1 also have this?

A few questions regarding these two cameras:

Both cameras use the same 16 mpx. sensor.

Both have IBIS

Both have touchscreen.

GX7 have capability to add EVF,  GM1 does not.

But image quality is same.   Correct?

GM1 is newer with newer features than GX7.

So why not with  money saved to get additional lens?

The reason I ask is because thinking  to replace GX1 with either GX7 or GM1 as "go to" canera for light travel kit.

Re: GX7 & GM1...a pleasant surprise.

no ibis in gm1 unless dpreview has their specs wrong. a dealbreaker for me but at least the gx7 has it.

Yes

No just GX7

GX7 has EVF built in. GM1 has none and cant be added

But image quality is same. Correct?

Yes

GM1 is newer with newer features than GX7.

Some like a 1/16000 sec shutter.

So why not with money saved to get additional lens?

Different cameras. GX7 has EVF, Tilting screen, higher shutter flash sync, hot shoe, more external function buttons

The reason I ask is because thinking to replace GX1 with either GX7 or GM1 as "go to" canera for light travel kit.
