Canon 7D and Tamron 200-500/5-6.3

Anyone out there using the Tamron 200-500/5-6.3 on a Canon 7D? My question is: Are you getting AF at all at 500 where you have f6.3? The camera has a f5.6 AF limitation. Now there is an interesting 150-600 coming up with the same f- stop.

It should work.  I used to have a Tamron 18-270 f/3.5-6.3, and it auto-focused throughout the zoom range.

I think the camera has limitations if the maximum aperture will be higher than 5.6, which would only happen if you add a teleconverter. The maximum aperture of your lens is 5.6  so the 7D will focus at all focal lengths, even if you would stop down to f8 or f 11.

I used the same lens with a Sony A700 ( same af limitations as Canon) and this was never a problem.

I think both Sigma and Tamron do some reporting tricks with their f/6.3 lenses to allow them to work. I have a Sigma 150-500 OS f/?-f/6.3 and it focuses fine on my Canon cameras. You may find that the camera struggles to focus in low light situations, but, it doesn't refuse to try simply because the lens is f/6.3.

Thank you all for the answers! Means that the 150-600 is still interesting. Let's hope the optical quality turns out to be good.

I've been waiting for the 150-600 4.5-6.3 lens to be announced since Tamron got the patent on it. Now the waiting starts for the real world experiences with the lens after it's released.
