What a mouthful.

http://www.canon-board.info/obiektywy-21/tamron-150-600-f-5-6-3-vc-usd-93364/

- focal 150-600mm
- focal f/5-6.3
- Filter diameter: 95mm
- Internal Focusing (AF)
- Image Stabilization (VC)
- ultrasonic motor (Ultrasonic Silent Drive)
- price (projected) $ 1,500 (about 6,000 PLN)
- dust + moisture resistant (seal) certainly more

Should be a hit if better than the Sigma 150-500 OS and near the quality of the Canon 100-400 IS.  Given Tamron's history of making excellent third part lenses, this is very likely IMHO.

I bet this will be a Sigma killer for sure. I said it in another post, I bet this will give the Nikon 80-400 a serious run especially if it is 1k cheaper. If Tamron has the optics right in this one it will be awesome..

Tamron seems to have a nice, conservative approach.  They upgrade one or two lenses at a time adding the vc and usd to a given lens and then adjusting the optical formula.  Nothing novel, just better.  If they can actually sell this for just $1500, they should move a lot of units.  The technology they originally introduced in a $400 lens is certainly making the rounds.  Trickling up, so to speak.

Sounds like a dream...
In reply to SHood, 10 months ago

I started long-lens photography with a Tamron 200-500mm which is an excellent and light lens for the price and for the reach.  I still have and use that lens, mixed in with a 300mm F4 prime and a 1.4x matched TC which is just a little better overall, but the convenience of the Tammy's range still makes me take it out and shoot with it on occasion.

If I could name anything I always wished I could improve on the 200-500, it would be to have it weather-sealed, to introduce a focus limiter, and maybe to have a quick and quiet USM motor...and of course, more reach is a regular refrain for wildlife shooters.  Amazingly, this lens addresses EXACTLY those things.

I am very strongly considering this my next lens pickup - I've been hunting and hunting for a reasonably priced 400mm F4.5 or 600mm F4 prime, but they are hugely expensive, and hugely huge...not to mention hard to find in my mount.  Though a little slower, in my primary shooting areas F6.3 shouldn't have any real adverse effects as long as it's still decently sharp wide open, which the 200-500 was admirably good at.  Any price under $2K makes it a bargain for me.

I almost wet my pants when I saw this!!  I've always wanted a better long lens.  My 70-300 VC is fantastic so I am expecting the new 150-600 to blow away the old design Canon 100-400 lens. The 100-400 has good range and I like the push-pull design but it could be sharper.

Looks like I need to sneak some more money out of my IRA account.  Dang, this could be a great X-Mas present for me...but don't tell the wife or my kids!

Cheers,

Gary

I admit I don't understand the MTF charts, but the more I read about this lens, the more I am tempted. I loved the VC on my 70-300, so this should be as good. At £1,000 or so, it looks like it could be a winner. Only drawback could be the weight, but what do we expect from this FL!!

I will take 2 of them. Not a joke. According to MTF it is better than Sigma 50-500mm OS.

Weight? It is only 1951 grams or 4.3 pounds. That would not be bad for a 600/6.3 prime, no less a zoom.

Hey John. Like I said, what else can we expect but for it to be a heavy piece of kit.

Nothing new in this video:

- Optically stabilized 150-600mm Full-frame f:5-6.3
- Silent-Drive Technology
- E-Band lens coating
- Will most probably hit the market in spring 2014
- Focussing range limiter
- Full-time manual focus
- Weather sealing
- Tamron listened to customers who wanted a larger zoom range
- Tamron wants to see how the market reacts to the announcement

I must admit I am quite interested in this lens. Hope this will be a good one. Let's wait and see.

Under development ?
In reply to op1318, 10 months ago

Im just wondering how that works.... Tamron announce it is developing the lens, and then they produce MTF charts for it ?  Sounds a little further along than just Under Development.
