**Weekly X Series Photo Thread 27 Oct - 2 Nov, 2013**
Oct 27, 2013

*This thread is always a lot fun and can be a great learning experience: letting you show off what you and your Fuji X camera can do.

*Please reply to the original post but change the title to reflect the subject of your image(s) so that you post starts a new section.

*If you can provide details on the subject, camera, settings and processing, that would be great for people reviewing the images.

*If you have more than 10 images to share, please break them up into more than 1 posting.

A few shots inside B&H Photo. All OOC jpegs

Ironically, as I shot the second shot security stopped me and said, "No photos allowed" - ironic that a camera store bans photography on the premises

PhotoPlus Expo NY and Javitz Center
In reply to Chris Dodkin, Oct 27, 2013

A few shots, nothing special, from the PhotoPlus Expo in New York last Friday. All OOC jpegs (a few used the Shadow slider) with the Fuji 14 - still amazed how little distortion this lens has

As you can see the theme from the Fuji booth 'X-Transcending Photogrpahy' emphasizing their commitment to X-trans.

I have been to this show every year since 2004 and this year attendance seemed very low, but Fuji booth was packed.

Sorry, not too sharp but acceptable

X-M1 On the Water
In reply to Chris Dodkin, Oct 27, 2013

The little M1 is a near constant companion now, bringing me back to undergrad days when the office K1000 would be with me though nearly invisible while out on editorial assignments. America's cup shot was captured with the 27mm, processed with SnapSeed on an ASUS tablet, a first for me, and the bottom with my beloved 14mm.

Kiwis pulling away, but not for long. . .

Prudential salutes Red Sox but unfortunately insurance companies have little pull with MLB umpires.

xpro1 with canon fd 85mm 1.8
In reply to Chris Dodkin, Oct 27, 2013

Hi, a couple of recent photos from the local beach. I used my fd 85mm with a cheap adapter. The focus peaking makes using the lens a breeze. I shot raw and jpg, these are the jpgs which were taken using the green filter and have been tweaked in lr4. Cheers jon

A clover patch, and a fine art clover patch
In reply to Chris Dodkin, Oct 27, 2013

To me, this seems to work better as a black and white image. The color image gives me the impression that the rabbit has just gone and the photographer has missed him.

I printed this B&W image at 19x13" and compared it to an equal film shot. I think this image just feels better than the film image (digital ink jet print from hi-res scan, both images printed on Epson R2000 printer on Inkpress Fine Art Matte, 220GSM, 12 mil, double sided). The smoothness of the digital version (posted below) wins out. I'm calling the B&W image "fine art".

I guess some images are like that. Some look better than film, some don't. Depends on the subject material, lighting, and who knows what else.

Comments? I'd be glad to hear yours!

Shot these today in Tampa Bay on Anna Maria Island. Both were straight out of the camera jpegs shot in Provia film simulation mode with 55-200mm lens. I did an auto contrast in PS but that's it. The first is a Snowy Egret and the second is a Great Blue Heron.

A few from Friday with the 55-200mm lens
In reply to Chris Dodkin, Oct 28, 2013

Normally, I use the 18-55mm lens in the field, as there are fewer opportunities to use the 55-200mm.  Friday, just for fun, I left the 18-55mm home and took only the 55-200mm - thereby forcing myself to use the longer lens.  The experience hasn't convinced me to change from my primary use of the 18-55mm, but I did get a few shots that would have looked different with a shorter focal length.

Here is a distant PA Dutch farmstead as seen from where we were hunting.  I liked the bright sunshine on the white buildings on a cloudy day.  This would not have been a good photo with the shorter lens.

A nice double dog point with foreshortened perspective.  I didn't have to get right up behind the dogs and risk flushing the bird while I had only a camera in my hand.

A couple well-done retrieves.  The longer lens allowed a tight composition even though they were at a distance:

Joy on the paw - especially 15 year old Maggie "helping" while grinning from ear to ear:

This shot made carrying the longer, heavier lens for miles worthwhile.
