By having every feature of both.

Of course this will not happen.  Next question?

...but at no higher cost than a current-day A77.

Of course this will not happen.

Even more valid assessment with my addition.

Sony will launch a cheaper FF model (A8x), which will technically place it between A77 and A99... until the major update we should expect a few months down the road to both A77 and A99.

That's what I'm thinking. Something in the category of the D600 and the 6D. FF with crippled features. At least I kinda hope so. I just upgraded to the A99 a few months ago and I don't want to feel the need to upgrade for another couple of years

You're talking to someone who thinks his A55 and NEX-3 are only three years old.

Isnt the A99 just an A77 with an FF sensor?

I guess they could put a flash on it, and make it 10FPS?

No  substantial differences, specifically in the focus technology..

No. They are as different as two siblings can be, sharing technologies but also using different technologies. IMO, Sony has undersold A99's potential and that is not a great idea in that price class. Hopefully, corrective actions are on their way.

It wont. Some people explained what it seems to be, but this is all from a graphic that has been circulating in sony alpha runors. The graphic shows that the camera is in between the A77 and A99. But if you check the e-mount Part, you will see the same with cameras that are in between, but dont replace them:

You can see in the E-Mout part, how they are not replaced. They are al sold at the same time.

So basically, this means that the new camera wont replace the A99 and A77, but that it will be in between. What do you have between 7 and 9? 8!!!!!!

So the speculation is a new A8X camera that will be to the A99 and A77 what the A850 was to the A900 and A700. A cheaper full frame camera.

I could totally be wrong, but that is what I (and some other people) read from this image.

The a99 will continue to sell for awhile yet.

The same for the Sony a77.

It is still competitive against against the Canon 70D and lower prices will continue to make it more attractive.

Sony will not abandon the APS-C line and you can expect the next version (akin to the 7Dmk2) to be more video centric.
