Thanks, crodaddy!  I don't know what it is.  I thought it was hummingbird, but after looking at it on the computer, it is apparently not hummingbird!  It has two ears!  It's wing is blurred even at 1/1000 second! I would have gotten many good shots if I had my 7D with me.  Cheers,

Hummingbird Hawk Moth

It's a hummingbird hawk moth.  Just found out about it now.  I thought I had seen a humming bird too and was surprised by how small it was.  Now it seems that humming birds only live in america and not europe, so it must have been one of these moths that I saw.

These are very cool bugs. Picture a hummingbird crossed with a shrimp.

Thanks Mattoid!  It is nice to know the name of it!  Yes, it is a little smaller than the hummingbird!

Thanks Raymond88!  I only got 4 sharp ones out of probably 20 photos, most of them are totally out of focus!

Thank you for correct species name. They really look like a flying shrimps. Here is a photo of Hummingbird Moth I recently took at Chicago Botanic Gardens. You can clearly see the difference between the two. Thanks to OP for posting interesting and well captured photo (with nice bokeh :-)).

Cheers

I just realized that what does it mean by clearwing!  Its wing is clear! The lower part of the wing is clear as it reflects the color of the flowers as the photo shown below.  Thank you again, John!

Nice shot, Richard!  The lower part of the wing is pink, I guess it is because it reflected the color the flower as it is clear?

I had lived in Libertyville for more than 20 years, I used to go the Chicago Botanic Garden very often!  Does this photo sounds familiar to you?

Re: My catch of the day

I just came back from a vacation.  With my EOS M + the kit zoom for wide angle and my 7D with 70-200mm/L4 IS for long end, I could shoot all situations without a need to switch lenses!  With a total of 3 batteries, the EOS M lasted a whole day!

I had trouble focusing in certain situations with the EOS M, no matter how I move focus point around (such as shooting flowers in semi-macro shootings).

Another thing I noticed is the insensitivity of the LED screen to Circular Palorizing filter.  So I stopped using it rather than choose a wrong position.  I can see it clearly the effect of CP filter through the EVF on my 7D.  Does anyone notice this?

I like to use my EOS M with 70-200mm/4L IS.  It is a real fun to use it.  The picture below show the setup.
