If I buy the Panasonic 7-14mm can I sell my 14mm prime?
Sep 23, 2013

I'm not made of money and the 14mm has always been "fine" rather than "great", so if I buy the 7-14mm, will I miss the 14mm prime?

Thanks.

Not for IQ. You will certainly miss the small size of the 14mm prime. And don't forget the prime is a faster lens. I have both, and if I sold one it would be the 14MM prime.

Beside the fact that the 14mm has a wider maximal aperture (F/2,5 vs F/4,0), the 14mm is a lot smaller (being a pancake lens). For example, I wouldn't try to do street photography with the Lumix 7-14mm.

If the latter is bigger, it's not a heavy lens. It just looks impressive. If you can live with that, you could sell the your pancake lens, yes.

I have that superb lens, and yes sell it. IQ is great.

The only reason I see for not selling it, is for a smaller size.

Keep the 14 for speed and size. It costs new $180 o the bay and if you sell it you'll get hardly more than $120.

At least keep it for another few months and if you really don't touch it anymore you can still sell it.

7-14 is for a different purpose. It is bigger and slower and heavier, to do the job of super wide angle.

you can buy 14 mm f2.5 for $100 new, for people split it from kit. not much resale value there and I would keep it in the pocket.

Used 14mm in mint condition currently selling for $140-$160 on eBay.  Taking into account selling fees, I would hang onto the 14mm for its size advantage.

After a while I sold my 14mm when I got the 7-14, @14mm I liked the 7-14 much better. I do have the 20mm as a walk around prime.

I bought the 7-14, and it's a great lens, but I certainly miss my 14mm - for it's speed and it's tiny size. I wish I had kept it.

I thought that I wouldn't, because I also have the 20mm as a walk around prime, but I do.

BTW, I sold it on a dedicated m4/3 forum that didn't have selling fees, and I got $158 for it, of which PayPal got $5, and the USPS got $3, so I was able to net $150 for it.  I suspect that nowadays, you'd get around $20 less than that for it after fees.

the 14mm is so small, fits into the outside pocket of my camera bag.

The 7-14 I rarely use, but need it of special occasions

I'll buy twenty for $100. Show me.

Why the hell would you need 20 of them?

Completely different purpose. I really like the 14 for what it is. A very portable, quite fast and sharp lens.
The 7-14 is big, heavy, not fast and very sharp.

$100 is a bit low, but they regularly go for 120-150 on eBay. Personally I wouldn't sell it. They are different lenses for different purposes. After ebay fees you might pocket $100. If you can afford the 7-14, you can probably afford to just keep the 14mm.

To sell 19 of them.  Make about $25 each, you can buy nice stuff with the $450-500 of profit.

Hehe, but I noticed that selling µ43 stuff is much more difficult than selling Canon or Nikon. I'm quite surprised actually that resell value is so low.

Not very sharp? No, it's very sharp, and it's very small & light for what it is.

Huh? I meant that it's heavy, but very sharp. Sorry if I was not clear.

OK, I think the jury was pretty split on this, but I will hang onto the 14mm for now and as one contributor said, if I don't use it in a few months, I'll sell it.

Thanks to all posters.
