10-24 -  my thoughts are negative due to 72mm filter size!  When I think about 72mm filter size I think about my former Canon 85L II lens.  That had 72mm filter size and it weighed a kilo.  Is 10-24 too big for a smaller X camera like XE1 or XM1/XA1?

56/12 - my first thoughts are positive.  62mm filter size!  This is going to be something.  I am salivating looking at the lens!   I think (hope) this is going to be that one epic portrait lens, for which photographers would buy a body just to use that lens, not the other way around.

Anyway these are just first thoughts from looking at the above lenses.

Thanks for the info. Yes, the 10-24 is much bigger than I expected. And the 56/1.2 is 1.5x as big as the 60, I would rather have a 1.4 or 1.5 that's cheaper and smaller.

My ideal setup was: 56 + 35 + 10-24, but I might have to reconsider this strategy.

especially in light of the fact that 10-18 from Sony NEX has 62mm filter thread and weighs only 225 grams.  So any talk about "but it has to cover a APSC sensor' I dont buy.

Re: you second statement, no I want the 1.2.    If we were on a full frame, I'd take 1.4 but on a smaller sensor, where a dof is larger, I want 1.2.   I'd like a 0.95 if it was available   I think 56/1.2 looks surprisingly compact for what I expected.

I think the best combo at this point would be 14/2.8 + 35/1.4+ 56/1.2.      Or if you like the 35mm fl, 14/2.8+24/1.4+56/1.2.          In my ideal world it would be a 14/2.8+35/1.4+56/1.2 plus whatever the replacement for XE1/XP1 comes out early in 2014 just in time for 56/1.2

If you carefully look at the photos the 10-24 is slightly longer and larger than the 18-55mm which seems reasonable

72mm is neeeded for a UWA lens anyway

Most of the 10mm lenses are FE like without filters, which makes them very sensitive to sand rain scratches

So all in all the body 10-24mm if it's like  on the picture will be aresonable compact UWA zoom

next questins being $$ and IQ...

Just for kicks here is a shot of the my old Nikon 10-24mm f/4 with 77mm filter threads on my XE1 - which includes an adapter that pushes it further out. The Fuji 10-24 would be smaller than the Nikon (without the adapter). Still a bit big but that is necessary

I know we APSC shooters all crave thin DOF at some point but with the 1/4000s max shutter speed and base ISO 200, we'll definitely need a 3 stop filter on there during day time, which will degrade IQ. All in all, I think it's a minor difference but major selling point which will affect pricing quite a bit.

Btw we shouldn't use fullframe DSLR lens as a size reference here. APSC and short flange should allow for considerably smaller designs. I would trade some distortion for smaller 10-24 but that's just me.

My take on the 10-24 is its a pretty specialized lens. Assuming Fuji delivers a fairly distortion free lens, it has a home for home interiors and landscapes. Typically accompanied by other equipment, or at least a tripod. As an one lens walkabout, I don't see it. While interesting, I can see my lens $'s going elsewhere.

Glad to see it though. Again, assuming its good, it continues to build credibility in the system.

Ok, I know it's supposed to be a 56/1.2 but the only image I saw in the link looks like a 56/1.4? :

Isn't this a 56mm f/1.4 with 58mm front thread diameter? (from the catalog)

Where's this 56/1.2 with 62mm filter thread?

56 1.2 with 62mm filter size is CLEARLY pictured on the 1st page at this link

http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/pdf/lenses_accessories_catalogue_01.pdf

the lens is just below the letter X.   I don't know how to capture the PDF page from my work computer to just copy the photo here but it is pretty clear

Not so. Sony Nex 10-18/F4 which is an excellent lens, has 62mm filter size, weighs 225 grams and covers obviously the APSC sensor in Sony NEX. If anyone doubts that Sony's 10-18 is fabulous, see examples by T. Radcliff of Stuckincustoms.com site http://stuckincustoms.smugmug.com/Portfolio/i-6RPpC5V  You will be impressed.

Do you mean this image (on the right of the 10-24):

doesn't that say "SUPER EBC XF 56mm 1:1.4 R O58" ?

the FUJI 10-24 is stabilized, not too many UWA have that so I'm sure it adds to the bulk. And as stated if it's another optically corrected lens I'll take a bit of extra bulk for quality over size.

Initially the 56mm was supposed to be a 1.4, so you'll find some protype photos from the various shows it was displayed in, since about early spring or maybe earlier FUJI updated the roadmap and made it a F1.2 instead of 1.4

That picture was long ago, around late 2012, before I purchased my first little red button. I am on my 3rd one now and fortunately I did not lose it on my camping trip that last 7 days - I lost the 2nd one last June on the first day of a camping trip
