How to set flash 43 to manual with A77

Trying to use my flash x-tender (better beamer) device, I need to set my Sony 43 flash unit to manual. I do it in the flash, but as soon as I halfpress the shutter it changes to TTL. And with the unit attached, A77's menu does not offer manual mode as with its built-in flash.

Thanks in advance,

Ed

What exposure mode are you using?

Sounds like you have some restrictive Auto setting enabled in the camera. Put the top dial in M mode and try it.

The camera menu's 'Manual' flash setting has no influence over external flashes at all - it only affects the pop-up flash.

Thanks,

M dial mode solved the problem of TTL overwriting Manual Flash control.

But I lost all auto settings, specially ISO Auto.

is there a way to keep flash in manual and let the camera to auto set all other parameters?

That's right. Most models including the A77 don't support Auto ISO in M mode.

You should be free to use manual flash in all normal PASM modes. Just avoid any 'Auto' labeled mode, which you have apparently been using. I recommend gradually weaning yourself away from them. They're very limiting.

Found flash Fn that allowds Manual in all PASM camerad modes

Looking for a better solution to my problem, Ifound that flash's  "Fn" 04 option allows you to set the flash unit to Manual even in P, A or S camera's mode (M included), default Fn 04 setting just allows it in M mode.

For what it could be worth it (like using the BETTER BEAMER "flash x-tender").
