Hello again

Seems like older lenses with faster F stops and a new "art cover" at a higher price.  That 's ok, all my lenses are still doing fine and I'm not in the market for any new lenses for a long while.  Plus I still have a few Pentax lenses in the locker and I have a great repair guy.  I think I have enough gear to last me, ...... oh 40 years.  I won't pay the new higher prices not from any company.  I just don't need that much gear any longer.

What I'd like to see is some weather sealed lenses for the SD1 body. What goods a weather sealed body if you don't have the lenses and flashes to go with it.

Where is the new cameras? The SD1m-s  The SD2m  SD3m  The DP4   DP5 ?

Have fun

Roger J.

Ok, oh well, rumors .... A Sigma 24-105mm f/4 OS would certainly make a nice travel lens! This is definitely currently missing in the Sigma lens line-up. I would be tempted to get such a lens for my SD1M.

And the 24mm f/1.4 would definitely be a great addition as well!

The most incredible from the list would be 24-70 F2 OS in terms of full frame compatibility.

I have Canon's MKII version of 24-70F2.8 and the results across the FF coverage have to be seen to be believed. All the reviews shows that it is the best zoom lens so far within the zoom range. The price of this lens reflects the level of perfection they were able to achieve. Canon omitted image stabilization for this lens in order not to compromise IQ.

In cropped sensor terms, such F2 lens should not be unrealistic just like 18-35 F1.8, however not inexpensive. Anyone looking to upgrade to FF in the future would think twice before purchasing it.

I guess, time will tell...

Cheers

Richard

Yup. Time for a new camera-DPM with zoom lens a la the new Leica Vario X.

Hi Richard:

I was under the impression that it was size not IQ that prevented lens mfrs from offering OS on the 24-70.

A good 24-105 would be a big seller whether  FF or APS-C and we have asked  Sigma about something in that range.  Canon's 24-105 is a big seller from what I understand.

I would really like a better and faster super-wide.

Rick,

This is correct to some extend. In case of Canon EF24-70F2.8 MKII, they were able to reduce the weight of new lens by substantial amount mainly by using engineered high quality composites for some of lens outer components instead of metal. However, they felt that employing additional optic group for IS would compromise IQ. This was (I believe) a tough decision as many users were expecting IS in this lens and were left disappointed. Personally, I would love to have IS on this lens but within the focal range the lens is easily manageable handheld in most circumstances due to high iso performance of related sensors.

A good 24-105 would be a big seller whether FF or APS-C and we have asked Sigma about something in that range. Canon's 24-105 is a big seller from what I understand.

I still have EF24-105F4 lens, now thinking about selling it. This lens, outside of versatility it provided as great travel lens have never satisfied my vision of a "good lens", especially when compared to a new 24-70.

I'm thinking of you using new 18-35 F1.8 lens and comparing it to earlier Sigma zoom lenses. Sometimes it is hard to compromise and go back once you try something really spectacular.

I'm sure that Sigma is more than capable of best FF 24-105 lens on the market and something like that will be a godsend to many enthusiasts and pro's alike. With new approach to optics they already proved the point with recent releases that the best is no longer the domain of the big guys.

I would really like a better and faster super-wide.

You got my vote here!

Cheers

Richard

I got my money ready for the 24-70mm F2 DG OS Lens (hoping it is DG/Full Frame).  I currently have 7 EX lenses (a good number are not the current EX version), but my 24-70mm F2.8 is on my camera 80% of the time and would be the first lens I would replace out of any of my current lenses.

At this point, I have settled on if I buy new lenses, they need to support the USB Dock (aka Global Lens lineup) and be Full Frame lenses for when Sigma may release a full frame in the future.  Used lenses only required is Full Frame at this time (all my EX lenses are DG).  I got SD14 and SD15, and will decide when Sigma unveils the successor to the SD1(M) if I will be willing to pull the trigger on that one or wait another generation.

Could a zoom lens be as good as those remarkable primes on the current cameras ?

All of Sigma's OS lenses have a substantial increase in flare over the same (earlier version) lens without OS.

Here are two excellent examples:

50-150:

http://www.lenstip.com/1.9-Lens_review-Sigma_50-150_mm_f_2.8_APO_EX_DC_HSM_Ghosting_and_flares.html

http://www.lenstip.com/364.9-Lens_review-Sigma_50-150_mm_f_2.8_APO_EX_DC_OS_HSM_Ghosting_and_flares.html

105 macro:

http://www.lenstip.com/241.9-Lens_review-Sigma_105_mm_f_2.8_EX_DG_Macro_Ghosting_and_flares.html

http://www.lenstip.com/318.9-Lens_review-Sigma_105_mm_f_2.8_EX_DG_OS_HSM_Macro_Ghosting__flares_and_transmission.html

This is why I've hesitated in buying any of them, as much of my work is with backlighting and side lighting and therefore subject to possible lens flaring. It's a flaw I wish Sigma would fix, though I think other manufactures are also having similar problems.

Good question. I'm old fashioned. I wouldn't mind a camera that did say, 35mm and 70mm-two focal lengths.
