Re: D800E + 80-400 AF-S • Rufous Hummingbird in Flight (X10)

The Rufous hummingbirds have raised their young way up north

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rufous_Hummingbird

and are already back on their way to Mexico. In July and August they take advantage of the wildflower season in the Rocky Mountains, like here in Northern New Mexico. This male Rufous is very aggressive, perches in trees around the feeder and drives off any other hummingbirds that want to drink the sugar water.

Here you can see him perched in a tree.

No wonder he is exhausted from trying to keep away, all day long, the other hummingbirds!

And he does take power naps!

So, very occasionally another hummingbird manages to get a drink of sugar water.

Hi Ernie,

Many thanks.  I included the parameters in the Exif.  They are 400 mm, f/5.6, ISO=500, 1/2000 s

Typically I use Auto ISO with ISO=100, Max sensitivity 1100, Min shutter speed 1/2000 , lens wide open.

With best regards, Karl-Heinz.

King Rufus - he considers the feeder as his personal property not to be shared!
