Damn Nikon, I need that MACRO lens NOW!
1

The 10-30 is nice, but I need to be able to get even closer! It's silly how fast and accurate the AF is. All these samples were taken with AF. Ever hear of how you are not supposed to use AF when shooting macro? I guess this doesn't apply to N1 cameras and lenses. So how about that 35-40mm macro lens, NIKON!?

(click on the images to enlarge to full HD)

I wonder how much detail Nikon V2's sensor could capture.

Does anyone have experience with achromatic lenses? I'm thinking about investing in a Marumi DHG +5 while waiting for Nikon to release a proper macro lens.

P.S. when shooting at ISO100 with the V1 I almost never apply NR or sharpening. In case you are wondering...

The clarity of the fly, the cool background, it's almost like it's on display! Great shot.

There is (or will be) this:-

"N1-CL1 Close-up Lens

This slim 40.5mm accessory fits onto the two Nikon kit lenses and provides macro capabilities of up to 3.8x on the 30-110mm zoom, and 0.76x on the 10-30mm".

Re: Damn Nikon, I need that MACRO lens NOW!

I agree that the Nikon 1 system needs a dedicated macro lens, but it's likely that one will be released at some point, hopefully soon.

Until that time, if you have the FT-1 adapter, you could mount something like the Nikon 40 f/2.8 DX lens, which is an extremely sharp 1:1 macro lens. With the 2.7 times crop factor on the V1, the 40 2.8 would act as a 108 f/2.8 macro, pretty close to the classic 105mm focal length of the Nikon macros (the middle one of the 60mm, 105mm, 200mm Nikkors) one of the better focal lengths in a macro lens for shooting insects.

Other than that, you could look into a Raynox DCR-250, which are quite good.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/275182-REG/Raynox_DCR_250_DCR_250_2_5x_Super_Macro.html

Search for "Raynox DCR-250" on Flickr or Google images to see lots of example images from this setup.

Best of luck, Markus

What does that mean? More than 1:1 magnification factor? That would be quite a boost compared to the default macro capability of the 10-30.

I use Nikon 3T and 4T close up lenses on the 30-110 with very good results, including AF. However lately I have enjoyed using my Cosina 100 macro manually focused. I prefer the long focal lengths for macro because of the greater working distance they afford.

I still don't get it. If it's 0.76x, I'm guessing it's still less than what real macro lenses offer (1:1), more like 1:1.32. Using the Marumi +5 on the 10-30 would result in an 1.4:1 reproduction ratio at 30mm. That would make N1-CL1 inferior.

The Marumi is a very good achromat. I have the +3, branded as Soligor.

Unlike the OP pics, you're using the 30-110 - which would also be preferable to use with Nikon's N1-CL1 alternative. The Nikon link I gave before shows pics of its use with both kit zooms, which clarifies the magnification offered in each case.

I don't own that lens and am not thinking about buying it in the near future. My next lens will probably be the 6.7-13mm.

I use a close-up lens Hama +2 or +4 with de 10-30. It's probably most efficient on the 30-110 but it's my only lens.

I wonder how the image quality of the Nikon close-up lens compares to the Marumi achromat.
The Nikon lens is only one element, while the Marumi is a lens system, which corrects for colour fringing.

Does it say that somewhere? Perhaps I was assuming it would be a 40.5mm version of the 62mm Nikon 5T which I have used on the 30-110 with step-ups - and which is definitely a diopter, and a good one.

OP might note people are using the 30-110 for working distance as well as magnification.

You mean one element?
Yup, it does. Go to the specification tab in the link you provided.

I'll have to get a 30-110 sooner or later!

Re: Damn Nikon, I need that MACRO lens NOW!

I  agree with Markus. Get the FT-1 and the 40mm macro. I use it with the 105 macro because I already have it. Here are a few with that combo.

I also can use the Canon 250D with the 30-110 (at 110 preferably) with a step up ring to 52mm, the size of the 250D. It's small and I can keep it in my V1 bag for whenever I need it.
