First time use of TG-2 underwater in Caribbean Sea.  Very impressed by ease of use underwater.

The camera does the job it was designed to do.

But when you do a video you might stop in some place to get a steady video. I suppose under the water framing the clips is a bit more difficult than above.

But just to check that your camera is working, this is fine. I have never been keen to stick MY head underwater.

This was my first snorkel in about  five years, and I was using the camera with one hand.  Agree that a more steady shot would make  for better viewing.   Also did not switch camera to Underwater Mode, so all photos were taken in Aperture Priority.   Had fun though.

Hi Henry ,its a lot more difficult than most people think, even when snorkeling,  you are trying to focus and frame with your LCD that has the distortion and reflections of a face mask and seawater( sometimes not so clear) between your eyes and the screen.

Then there are waves currents tides etc that prevent fine control of  camera positioning. Forget about IBIS and fine tuning exposure.

Did I mention the breathing through a plastic tube

I think Barry has done pretty well with a new compact .

cheers

Aaron

Not bad, but despite the fact that the TG-2 should be in all respects the best underwater camera, I think that Panasonic TS/FT (series 3,4 & 5) underwater cameras are even better in UW conditions.

Some of my snorkelling/freediving (one hand recordings, fins & snorkel only, up to 18 meters deep) UW videos/photos taken with Panasonic TS/FT cameras:

Ciao...Barry

Thank you so much for posting this!

Sounds like the dreaded AF clicking sound - it's more like a constant low-level "whirr", but it's definitely there.  Guess TG-2 doesn't fix one of the big TG-1 problems...
