Strap for OMD?

I just got the OMD and I really like it, but I don't care much for the strap.  Anyone have good suggestions for the strap replacement?  (perhaps a retro thin leather one to complete the look.)

Thanks in advance,

Alan

Keep mine on a Gordy's XL leather wrist strap. It's black with brown cord wrapping. I think it's pretty handsome.

I have a bit of a belly and prefer carrying my camera on my wrist. When I had a strap I was always wrapping around my wrist anyway.

Good luck.

I use this thin leather neck strap on my OM-D

I bought it on ebay here

This is not really a suggestion. But I am using an old "Niggeloh" strap for my OM-D. That strap had been used before for my E-1, E-20, EOS 600, Praktica, and EXA cameras. The cameras have all gone (except for the E-1), the strap is still going strong!

Just googled Niggeloh. It's a German company offering dog collars and hunting equipment...

Go to the store and pick what YOU like!

Asking for strap suggestions is sily because it's a personal thing.  Some people recommend the R-strap which goes across your body, but I despise those things!

Cameras in te old days had spaghetti straps, but with the weight of the camera it digs in to you.  I prefer wider, neoprene.

When I buy a new camera I buy a strap at the same time...I NEVER use the OEM strap.

Not retro at all, but I make my own strap out of 3/8 nylon webbing and attach it with these great clips from op-tech. They will work for attaching any thin strap.

http://www.amazon.com/OP-TECH-USA-Mini-Loops/dp/B004N623WK/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1FGGEPJCU3GTW&coliid=I3CHU8BCBPOO1N

They loop in the strap lugs and eliminate the metal connecting rings.

prostrap.com makes some nice thin leather straps. Also Domke 1 inch wide gripper strap is nice, I have one on my Pana GX1.

Re: Strap for OMD?

After years of seeing overpriced straps I found this Chinese site:

http://www.ebay.it/sch/m.html?_odkw=guitar+strap&item=170921134176&_osacat=0&_from=R40&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&_ssn=roushot_us&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=strap&_sacat=0

Which has very racy straps, and others in good plain taste, for very little money.

They are called roshot_us, and they even have the 1960s oldies.

I am getting a leather and khaki canvas strap for the E-M5

Am.

Re: Strap for OMD?

I bought the Tap and Dye strap in amber/brown.  It's leather and really nice!  I was travelling through Morocco for 2 weeks with my OMD E5 and found it very comfortable on my wrist.  It actually softened up.  I also like the fact that it has a...ring...which you can slide up and tighten around your wrist so you don't have to clench the camera in your hand.

This is the point where I sigh about camera stores all closing due to their reliance on film and developing to stay open.

Re: Strap for OMD?

Just an idea, take it or leave it, but these mirrorless cameras are small and light enough as to not need a real dedicated manufactured strap.

For, me I did buy a manufacturer wrist strap and found it too big so, following some member's suggestion here, I just went to a gift store and bought this leather breaded string and made my own wrist strap for my OM-D. I've been using it for well over a year now and it never broke or anything and it still looks like new today.

Here's a picture of it. I actually used a mirror to take a self portrait of a mirrorless camera (fun). The strap is actually a whole lot smaller than it looks in the picture. The closeup makes it look much bigger. It's basically a shoelace size strap.

This is like saying, "I just bought a Chevrolet." Which one are you talking about? It might not dictate which strap you choose, but then again, there are 2 models now, and they aren't precisely the same size.

and I really like it, but I don't care much for the strap. Anyone have good suggestions for the strap replacement? (perhaps a retro thin leather one to complete the look.)

Re: Strap for OMD?

I have the wrist strap and the camera strap from Peak Design.

They are very easy to exchange and when you don't use the camera strap, it doesn't need much space.

The EM5 is so small and light that it is a camera well suited for hand holding, rather than wearing around you neck, especially when you are using a prime lens.

So I just took one of those thin straps off an old 35mm P&S camera and used it. You can see part of the strap here...
