Filter stuck on lens
May 7, 2013

Having a stuck filter, I searched a bit around and found this:

Has anyone tried this thing?

Best regards

Yeah, I used something similar several times back in my film days. Cheap plastic filter wrenches are the best thing since sliced bread for removing jammed filters or separating a filter/step up ring combo.

Cheap, easy separation, no damage--every photographer should have one or two stashed in their bag. The ones you show in your link look a bit superior to the standard set.

82mm

Thanks for the reply. I was aware of these, but I only saw up to 77mm. I would need on for 82mm, which seem to fit into the jar opener.

I wouldn't mind something smaller, than the plastic thing, but I couldn't find anything for else for 82mm.

Don't squeeze the filter between your fingers it distorts it making it harder to twist. Place your palm over the filter and press while twisting, works every time for me.

That does usually work with standard filters, but it's not a viable technique when the front of the filter rotates, e.g. a variable ND filter or circular polariser. I had a hell of a job getting a CP filter removed from a used lens that came with one stuck on.

Perfect for 82mm filters

Exactly. I had a stuck Polarizer in 82mm and I couldn't get it off.

In the meantime I received it, and it loosened the filter instantly! It is a tiny bit bulky, but the only thing I found that would work on a 82mm filter.
