IE bookmark locations
Apr 28, 2013

My laptop disc seems to have developed some sector problems and I found myself having to restore an older system image onto a new dsc. However I forgot to export the IE bookmarks from my old disc before restoring my backup and I would like to copy them from the old disc (which I have transferred to a usb enclosure) to my new system. The problem is that I cannot seem to find them on that old disc.

I could, of course, replace the new disc with the old, export the bookmarks, reinstall the new disc and import them, but on my laptop that means disassembling the machine twice and I would rather not do that if I did not have to. Does anyone know if the IE bookmarks are stored somewhere accessible where I could just copy them to the new disc?

Thanks.

It would really help if you said what version of Windows you are running!

In Windows 8, it's in C:\Users

Yes, of course. Sorry about that. Windows 8, 64 bit.

However I looked under c:\Users before I posted this question and could not find anything that looked like a bookmarks file.

Under both C:\Windows\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\... and C:\Windows\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\... I could find nothing that seemed to address my need. Could you be more specific?

There is "Favorites" folder, it's not a single file.

Thank you. Found it. Copied it over to the new disc and now I have my old bookmarks.
