Hate Skype?
Apr 26, 2013

Being strongarmed into Skype, I lost the ability to have a sound play when an email came in. Well, go here to bring back Messenger and get rid of Skype, works like a charm:

Cannot say I have ever had any such problems.  Must be some setting in your computer and of course, under Skype's TOOLS menu you can check the settings for Video and Audio as sometimes, due your computer setup, Skype can select the wrong device for Sound - will show the options available for easily changing to suit as required.

I've been using skype for years, so quite happy with the way it performs.

What program is producing the email notifications? Outlook?

Skype has always performed well and still is for me, I use it on a weekly basis to talk to my son overseas, to relatives overseas and to ring back home when I am holidaying overseas. Can't fail it.

Personally I love Skype

I can't begin to add up the amount I have saved calling back home when travelling around the world using Skype. Plus instead of just a verbal conversation and can see my family. I use Skype a lot and have found it works great for my needs.

I've been using 'Windows Live Mail' email client (similar to Outlook Express) on Windows XP...

When logged in to 'Live Messenger', if an email arrives the 'Messenger' app pops up a notification in the task bar notification area - and most usefully, if the mail client is running (typically minimised to the notification area) then the client downloads the email immediately from the remote mail server without waiting for any set polling interval.

The mail client (optionally) produces a sound notification - but I guess Messenger probably also does too, when it issues it's pop-up notification.

Unfortunately, now that the Messenger service/program is defunct, the immediate pop-up notifier/and immediate download of email received, is gone - such a pity, as it was very useful, just like being in an office on a proper Outllook server/client system.

[P.S. Edit: Perhaps, in time, the same functionality might be reincorporated between Skype and whatever Microsoft email client might be current].
