After hours and hours, I need help with a tripod head!
Apr 15, 2013

I've spent hours and hours looking for a tripod head and have been unable to find a decent one within my budget. I've decided to get the 190xprob instead of the cx version to give a larger budget to the head. I'd like to spend around $200, as it seems any less you don't get anything worthwhile. I'm planning on buying through B&H, so I'd prefer suggestions that are available from there or other major etailers.

I want a ball head, and my camera is a D300 and I shoot with a Tamron 70-300 mostly.

Here is a list of some of the heads I've liked.

This one is pushing the budget a bit!

These are the ones I've found, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Thanks, guys and gals.

I've played with the Kirk ballheads a number of times, they're really well-built.

I'd also check out the RRS BH-30.

Using a Benro B3 here, think it's made by same factory as the Induro?

But very happy with it... a freezing test can be seen here http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3369488

Paid $115 at DC Stuff, Hong Kong.

The B3 seems to be pretty solid. The Kirk BH-1 didn't fair as well, and it costs much more than the BH-3 I had in mind.

The Sunwayfoto heads look good. I'm considering the FB36 for 169.99 from b&h. I like Acra-Swiss clamps

My friend Sotiris did a couple of reviews of Sunwayfoto's heads and seems to like them too!
