Old friends, new friends
Apr 13, 2013

Some old friends . .

A solitary pelican . . .

And a very busy snowy egret

New friends . . .

who got very curious.

And finally a Magnificent Female Frigatebird.

Lots of fun . . .

Sonyshine,

Sorry the label got "lost".  It is a Spotted Sandpiper.  Very interesting bird.  Their body kept bobbing up and down . . . seemed like a very nervous fellow.

Thanks for the nice words . . .

Great shots. #5 gets my vote as No. 1. I like how the colour of the bird transitions into the wet sand colour.

...some shots were taken at 70mm, and yet they seem to fill the whole frames - I'm highly impressed by your staling skills !!

Thanks Jack. It's not a bird we see here in the UK but it reminded me of our own sandpipers who also do that bobbing thing!

The spotted sandpiper has very occasionally occurred in Britain, when birds have been blown off course and crossed the Atlantic.

These were taken with the LA-EA2/SAL70300G combo.  AF-C,  wide settings.  The EA2 does a fine job of AF for these kinds of applications with the Nex 7.

I dig the 3rd one. I like how it fills the frame. Angle, profile is just right and like the water trailing off the talons, if that's what egrets call those.
