Unfortunately the rebate is an Amex Rewards Card.  Kills the deal for me.

I just take the rebate cards to my bank and they put the cash equivalent in my checking account.

I saw this and was very curious about it. Anyone have experience with this printer? Simple stuff like: do the photos printed last a long time without fading if printed on the semi-gloss or luster paper they advertise with it?

How many prints can you get out of the cartridges?

Any known issues?

Re: Canon PIXMA Pro-100 $114 After Rebate

Got mine last week.  Easy to set up and after I got he hang of selecting the right color space and profiles it prints great pictures in a very reasonable amount of time.  The paper is nice too.  Also when I registered the printer Canon had a buy 1 get 1 paper deal plus 50% coupon for doing the registration online.  Needless to say I now have more paper  than I ever would have bought and in 4 different sizes.  13x19, 8.5x11, 8x10, 5x7 and 4x6.  i even picked up some of the Pro Platinum 13x19.

For $35 I ended up with about $120 worth of paper.

Oh, and wireless setup took about 5 minutes - it took longer to unpack the printer.

I have printed about 30 4x6, 10 8.5x11, and 10 13x19.  All ink tanks are still showing their "full" graphic in the maintenance center.  I think people have said depending on the mix of colors in your pictures you can get about 50 13x19 prints.  a full set of canon replacement inks goes for around $120.

Thanks for the feedback! That isn't too bad inkwise.

Canon claim (reported interview with some Canon high-up) that the dye inks for the Pro-100 are comparable in fastness with pigment inks. That certainly was not true a couple of generations back with the i9950 I used to have, and I chose the Pro-1 as its replacement to be on the safe side – a great printer.

i think they raised the price! the printer is $429 and the paper is $76 right now, which makes the total $505. With the rebate deal, it will set you back $205 for the pair.

Atlex.com  (an authorized Canon seller) has the PRO-100 plus the required pack of paper needed for the $300 rebate for $449, free shipping and no sales tax (at least in my overtaxed state of CA).  After $300 rebate, total cost is $149.  Considering the ink is worth $125, the printer is practically free!

I bought two in FEB (me and a friend) when the rebate was $200 (but the printer was $399) and have been very happy with its color output and no-clog problem.  I'm buying another just because the deal is so good.

FYI, the AMEX rebate card comes VERY quickly.  For both of mine, they took only 2 weeks.

Re: Canon PIXMA Pro-100 $114 After Rebate

Does anyone have suggestions for alternative ink sources?

Right now it's over $120 to fill up the printhead with Canon ink.

NOthing as of yet. If and when Image Spacialists develops an ink set for it, you will be able to refill your OEM carts the same manner as CLI-8s are refilled. BUT.... There is not resetter in near future so the only way would be to disable ink monitoring for each of the colors as each reaches Empty!

Re: Canon PIXMA Pro-100 $114 After Rebate

Looks like the Pixma Pro-100 get appointed party is going to start all over again. Precision color ink has a refill ink for this printer. There's a shortage on cartridges right now. There are videos on how to prep your own cartridges, or you can order CLI-8 cartridges from Precision Color and transfer the chips from your existing CLI-42 cartridges. Yes, there are videos on Precision Color ink website showing how to transfer the chips.

Going further in the questions, no, The Precision Color ink isn't even "supposed" to last as long as the OEM ink as far as longevity of the prints. The colors reportedly match perfectly, no need to rinse the cartridges. However, you cannot reuse the yellow cartridge without completely flushing it. Probably better to buy a replacement CLI-8 yellow cartridge. The colors are very brilliant, images are stunning. I have had mine now for nearly 6 months. Very happy with it up to this point.
