HS50: Is it any good for video?

This is a question for all the HS50 owners out there. How goos is the video from this camera?

I use the HS10, and the video quality leaves a lot to be desired, so I shoot most of my family videos with the LX5.

I would appreciate any hands on impressions about the video quality, manual zoom, focussing, internal sounds etc.

thanks,

raj...

I use the HS50 and the video quality leaves a lot to be desired IF you video inside in poor light it is crap, outside it is a little better, I would invest in a cheap Panasonic, or sony for video,

here is test http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78KOaBDt0Zk

This doesn't answer my question. You are showing me a video shot with the Nikon Coolpix P520.

Raj,

The quality and focusing are better than previous HS cams but there is still the dilemma of shooting while zooming. Panny and Sony are still better choices for video recording because of the slow and smooth motorized zoom.

If competitors does not matter, what difference does it make if it's good or not?

Re: lossless digital zoom

Joms, an idea- since manual zoom is useless for video and videos normally use only a very small part of the sensor's resolution why doesn't Fuji implement lossless digital zoom for video and use the rest of the sensor's pixels to implement it? When implemented this way digital zoom has the same image quality that optical zoom would.  Plus it would aid in focusing and composing.  You also have the IDZ Fuji already has and the two types of digital zoom could be multiplied together.

It is not the manual zoom per se as useless for video. IF and only IF you need to zoom in and out gradually while recording then it becomes a problem. Otherwise, you can zoom in and fix the focal length of recording or zoom in/out in one shot to avoid jerkiness.

Re: lossless digital zoom

They make all kinds of Zoom Levers for Manual Lens and they work great...Panasonic makes them for their lens as well...see first link below first photo

Re: lossless digital zoom

Yep, if I remember correctly, doesn't Panasonic actually make a lens that has both manual and motorized zoom?  You can use either (or both.)

Thanks Joms. Does the HS50 pick-up lens noise when zooming? I believe that was an issue with the HS10.

Best regards,

This is pretty interesting. I did not know they made such a gadget, definitely better than hand rotating the lens barrel.
