HS50: Shadow Detail Example... Surprise! Surprise!

I played around in Lightroom with an 8 MP (M-size) image from the HS50 and was taken aback by the amount of shadow detail that could be retrieved from a half size and supposedly "crippled" file. I am tempted to try and see what would be the results on a RAW files, once they get LR support.

The image is not special by any counts, it was taken from a moving car.

Orginal File: P-mode, if I remember correctly.

Edited version: Lightroom adjustments for shadow, exposure and highlights. Minor correction in orientation.

I was wondering if this kind of performance is good/average/poor for this class of camera. Expert opinions ?

Regards,

Deep

The HS50 is very postprocess friendly I would say.

EXR cams are verygood as this but you will have more headroom if you shoot in RAW.

Light Room is great for lifting shadows. I would think it coulde do this with shots from most cams. I know it does it with  my  F770 though noise & color can still be an issue.

all the best

enjoy your cam !!
