X100S with LH-X100 lens hood w/adapter ring: Does the X100S lens hit slim filter when in macro mode?
Apr 2, 2013

I ordered the Fujifilm LH-X100 lens hood w/adapter ring, and a B+W 49mm Clear Slim MRC 007M Filter to go with it.

I've seen mention of the lens possibly hitting the back of the filter when in macro mode. For example, in this review of the X100 by André Östergård, he states:

"Be careful when you buy a filter for this camera not to pic a slim filter because that will not work when the camera is in macro mode. The lens will hit the filter and make the camera stall and shut down.

Is this still true with the X100S? Will the slim B+W filter be a problem as far as the lens hitting the back of the filter when in macro mode? If so, is there a specific B+W filter that you've used that you know does not exhibit this problem?

No danger - the adapter ring gives enough distance to any filter.

It does not.

My B+W 49 007 CLEAR MRC nano XS-PRO DIGITAL (I'm quoting the full name to avoid possible confusion) filter arrived this morning and I can confirm there is no problem with the lens hitting it while in macro mode. But it is indeed CLOSE, it's hard to measure of course, but I would say it's 1mm of space between the filter glass and the front of the lens, not more. So for some slim mount filters this may be a real problem. Never though of that, lucky me...

As wosim said above: as long as you use the Fuji adaptor ring (or the equivalent much cheaper JJC one) you can fit ANY filter - thick or thin mount - the adaptor gives the necessary clearance.
