Moire...

Most of K-5 IIs users say that they do not see moire at all. Would someone post something like these, taken with K-5 IIs please?

Thank you in advance,

SG

Yes and no. Thank you for the quick reply. Actually it's pretty good. However, I'm looking for the detailed big feathers, like the ones on my samples. Do you have anything like that by any chance?

Thanks again,

SG

Not really. But I would think the fine texture of overlapping feathers at various angles is perfect to induce moire.

Anyway, after 3200+ shots on my IIs including landscapes, portraits, birds, with various lenses and in different lighting conditions,  I can certainly say I am yet to see any meaningful moire, and I do look for it during pp.

Re: Moire...

Hi Greyser,

Are you thinking about getting a K-5 IIs?

I've been considering it myself.

Yes. My k-5 is 2 years old and 60+K shots young. Who knows what the new K-3 or whatever else sensor is. If it is introduced in April, it going to take about a year to get a camera in stores and at least first performance info.

I have a couple...

:-)All shots with FA*600 in optimal conditions. In the series below 2 shots exhisbit little moiré or false colors, are you able to point it ? These are common birds easy to shoot, I made these tests to see if moiré could occur. Now I'm not looking for moiré anymore...

Re: Moire...

No replies ?

In fact after several hundreds of bird shots like above I haven't seen moiré that really affect my pictures...

The main issue with the K5iis is the price tag. In europe K5ii prices are decreasing, K5iis not; the price difference is now 290 euros - 377 $, thats more than 34 % off
Cheers

Re: Moire...

High iso chroma noise is more of an issue shooting birds, than moiré. To spot moiré, you will really have to view images at 100%, and when I first got the K5IIs, and looked for signs of moiré, it always turned out to be color noise.
In some 3000 shots of all sorts, I've only been able to succesfully shoot real moiré in..... 1 image!

That's what I found as well.  The only times I found it were when shooting the local Herons, where I found what I thought was moire pattern on some of the large but fine feathers, and again only when taken at about a 45 degree angle to the bird.  A bit of colour noise removal did the trick, so no moire as yet, just very detailed shots.

Thank you, Jeanphilippe. The 2nd shot is exactly what I was asking for. It looks fine to me.

Re: Moire...

Thank you, guys for the quick response and samples. I may wait a month to see what is coming next (if the rumors about new Pentax announcements are true) and may buy IIs, due to proven sensor performance and no AA filter.

You are wellcome, I have detected moiré on the second shot on some feather bottom right; here is the 100 % crop

And also some traces of false colors on the wing of the the tit here

Honestly if I hadn't look for it, knowing that the K5iis could cause moiré, I would not have seen it !

I think that the fine patterns of the feathers are all oriented differently, so when moiré occurs it is limited to a small area and barely detectable. For me it is a non issue.

Lost in the codenames, now. Do you mean the K3? FF in September...? And the one you've been calling the "apsc highclass" in Summer?! So what, if anything, is coming in April? Or has that been abandoned? Or is it announce in April, available in summer?

Confused!
