Show Your Snaps...March 25, 2013
Mar 25, 2013

We will start a new thread for this every week now due to the popularity. I'll be sure to comment also to your images, if you choose to share. Thanks everyone for your participation.

When you are posting your own images please submit them as a reply to this post. Otherwise your pictures may be overlooked. See my own photos for this week as a reply.

We invite you again to show your own snapshots or even choice pictures. Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each other and it's fun to share too.

White Egret
In reply to Digirame, Mar 26, 2013

This past Sunday I was able to get close to a white egret.  I followed some of my old techniques of getting close to the bird, and then waiting for the bird to walk even closer towards me.  I've found if you advance too close by walking towards the bird, it will fly off.  It's better for the bird to come towards you all on its own (if at all possible).  It's important to appear non-threatening.

Photo No. 1 - This is one of the first pictures I was able to get of the bird.

Photo No. 2 - The white egret was looking for something to eat.

Photo No. 3 - Occasionally the egret would find (what appeared to be) small fish along the shoreline in this area.

Photo No. 4 - Then a bird watcher walked along and scared the white egret away.

Photo No. 5 - It landed further away from me.  I like the bright white colors in contrast to everything else there on a cloudy day.  I cropped it some to get closer.

Photo No. 6 - I waited for the bird to come towards me again.

Photo No. 7- I took care to have enough depth of field, so the surroundings were nearly in focus or in focus.

Photo No. 8 - Getting slightly closer to me....

Photo No. 9 - The egret was walking along slowly looking for that bite to eat.

Photo No. 10 - Finally, when the bird got too close for comfort it flew off again.  It was a miscalculation on my part.  I should have had a higher shutter speed.  I had room to do that...oh well...lessons learned.

Northen Pintail
In reply to Digirame, Mar 26, 2013

On the same day, I was able to sit on a bench and wait for these Northern Pintail ducks to get quite close to me.  Here's a couple of them.  These were taken on a cloudy day.  The second one was taken beneath the shadows of large trees too, so it wasn't as bright with contrasts.  But it shows that the ducks will get close to us if we are patient.

And one more.  My 13 year old daughter decided to bake some cupcakes on a whim.

Mostly testing out new camera
In reply to Digirame, Mar 27, 2013

I just got a T2i to replace a now dead XT and have been having fun trying to see how well I can get it to work.

This was in the pre-dawn twilight waiting for my morning train.  I'm impressed both by the performance at ISO3200 and by the 18-55 IS that allowed me to hand-hold this shot at 1/4 s.

This is looking up from the bottom of the Hancock Tower in Boston (tallest building in New England).

I've done that before where I took a picture of myself through the mirror.  It's fun to play around with our camera toys.

That's a nice one.  It seems with the background that it looks like the squirrel is under water.

That's an interesting photo with the ferry on the lower left side and the birds flying high on the right side.  There must be lots of things to photograph in Baytown.

That's the best way; click it as fast as you can.  Those moments are fleeting moments.  Sometimes we only have a split second to take a picture of something and then it's gone.
