The Flautist

E5 live view shot

Usually with an E5, I wouldnt even think of using the slow focusing live view. But this time since the flautist is still, I experimented. With the ZD35-100 glass, I have to always make sure autofocus is spot on. I switched to live view, focus on the face and after it locked (sluggish but sure) I pressed the shutter. Very satisfied with the contrast detect live view.

The saxophone is a very interesting machine, but I'm more interested in music.

Indeed, that worked well in this case.  A fine shot with the E-5 and ZD 35-100 combination.  Nicely composed and done.

2013 Redwood Region Logging Conference

I'm not a logging fan.  Forty years ago, I worked to stop the avaricious logging practices and save what is left of the old growth redwoods.  But I am a RR nut and most other types of machinery attract me and my camera, especially steam powered machinery.  So, here are way too many pictures.  I ended up with a baker's dozen I couldn't resist posting.  Sorry,  Rich

Recipe for camera food:  Take 100+ year old gypsy locomotive, add water, bring to boil, add children, feed result to camera.  Yummy!

Beautiful old steam donkey provided power out in the woods.

That roller is somebody's baby and they restored it as art.

My guess is:  This one rides like a truck.  The suspension dampening consists of the disks between your vertebra

Sorry, but you didn't have to look at them all.

Re: The Bub at a rugby match

Was looking for clues as to where this was taken but the cars are too far back to see the steering wheels and not sure about the jerseys.  Maryland logo but the players have a British look.

Re: The entrance

A well framed view.  What is it and where, generally?  Could be a house but hard to tell and the windows say church but don't see any other evidence of that.

Andrew

Re: 2013 Redwood Region Logging Conference

Wonderful collection of machinery Rich.  Love the roller.  Says Buffalo Springfield on the side.  Any idea if that is a company name or peresonally named by the owner?  That Mak truck has the same suspension as my John Deere.  Twenty five years of cutting grass (5 plus acre lot) on rough ground has seriously damaged the 'suspension' in my back, but I don't want to move!

Best wishes,

Andrew

Nice image Larry.  I don't think that is what you were intending to feed though!

Re: Redwood National Park

Craig, your picture captures the mood of the redwoods.  I spend many foggy days in the park waiting for a shaft of sunlight.  Nice shot, Rich

Re: 2013 Redwood Region Logging Conference

The name of the company, Andrew.  You can see the manufacturer's plate in the pic I posted, but downsizing and compression make it illegible when zoomed in on.  I liked the machine so much that I did a close up of the plate, though, and here it is.  In the bad old film days, I probably would not have wanted to use up a frame for it.  I'm sure glad I lived long enough to get to enjoy digital photography.  Rich
