House Finch
In reply to tylerken, Mar 19, 2013

6D with 70-200 f/4L: f/4; FL: 200mm; SS: 1/400; ISO: 100; shot in RAW and PP in Lightroom; crop and a touch of unsharp in Gimp.

Male House Finch sitting on the back of a patio chair on our frozen deck.  He was sitting pretty close to the window for a few seconds while we were eating our supper, so I started creeping toward him like a cat!  I wish I could have gotten closer, but I managed to snap a few before he disappeared.

Hi all,

recently we had rare visitors in our area (Bavaria)

I only saw them 3x while being 45 now - and only once I had my gear with me

In german they are called 'Seidenschwanz' (=silktail) but I think they are known as cedar waxwings in english ?!

Happy shooting, Klaus

N. America has 2 varieties of waxwings, cedar and bohemian (the latter being a little larger).  Eurasia has only the Bohemian.

These would be the Bohemian waxwing with the rusty coloured undertail showing in shot 2.

Wow, that combo made for a present photo.  Wish I had a Canon 6D.  But Digic 6 is out there somewhere.

Thanks! I went out to shoot mountain pano and found not 1, but 2 lone eagles on the trip. (About 25 miles apart.) The first was being tormented by a flock of magpies. This one pictured was just sitting on the side of the highway in a tree 2 or 3 trees back.

Red tailed hawk...  My 10-yr-old son spotted it as we were driving down the road.  That lovely tail is hard to miss!
