Olympus C-730 UZ review
Sep 4, 2003

Nice camera, but the bad performance with regards to purple fringing held me back a little. I got it a lot with bird shots (bird in a tree, branches against the bright sky -> lots of fringing). Even with the sun behind me and blue skies I could often still find some purple in those type shots. Very frustrating. I think today you'd be much better off with the c740uz or the c750uz, which have much less of a fringing problem, and which I feel are the top big zoom cameras. That said, the 730 did a real good job during my vacation. I guess holiday snaps are less of a challenge than birdshots. I did use full zoom a couple of times, but no pics from those 2 weeks had bad fringing. Check some of 'm out at

(the ones starting with P8 are taken with the 730. No postprocessing except for downsizing from interpolated mode)

Pros:
- evf a joy to use compared to the optical viewfinder on my c3000
- ditto for the quick access menu options, customizable button and mymodes
- still takes the sm-cards I have (next to xd)

Problems:

The cons:
- purple fringing (see http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4288151835)
- not so great or fast at focusing
- iso64 not user selectable (only available through some of the creative modes)
