Pentax Optio S5i review
Got because I was finding my Canon S45 too bulky for carrying around/
casual use. Initially I thought I would find the lack of manual controls
frustrating, but in fact the available controls are fine - the range of
scene modes is huge. The live histogram is great to have. The camera's
fast, and I haven't had any focusing problems. The flash is a bit weak. I
chose this model over the later introductions because I wanted the
optical viewfinder - helps with slow shutter speeds (you can stabilise the
camera against your nose just like a normal camera), and if you
normally need reading spectacles. For anyone over 45, reading the LCD
close up can be a problem without changing or removing specs. The
tiny size does mean some compromise in lens quality etc., but I think
the camera is fantastic for what it is. You are buying great convenience,
user friendliness and stylishness; and reasonably good image quality.
Avoid high ISO settings though - which is why I never use the auto
setting for ISO.
None that were the fault of the camera.
