Fujifilm FinePix S3500 Zoom review
Bought this camera a couple of years ago at an end of model sale.
Taken thousands of shots mainly on holidays.
Good SLR like body with firm grip - just the thing for telephoto shots.
EVF, altho fairly low res. is great for outdoor shooting and steady hand holding for zoom shots.
Excellent 6x optical zoom which is bright f2.8 and constant aperture f2.8 - f3 at max zoom.
Takes 55mm filters.
Very simple to use altho' not many 'manual' settings.
Good color and exposure altho pics are a bit 'soft' out of camera - easy to fix in PP program on PC. Can use sharp setting in the 'M' mode.
Little or no purple fringing - less than my later Fujis.
Good flash coverage.
Reasonable shot to shot time about 2 secs - no burst mode tho'.
Excellent battery life - over 500 shots on a charge of 2500ma NiMH AA cells.
It may be 'only' 4 megapixels but gives cleaner pics than many high ISO high megapixel cameras of today.
Poor low light focussing and ISO limited to 100 without flash.
Need to point at a bright light source at around the right distance to get a focus lock and then frame the pic for a flash shot.
Shutter speed too slow for handheld shots in even moderately low light without flash. I've found setting the EV to -1 or lower in "M" mode and 'pushing' the brightness on the computer allows a faster shutter speed but the picture noise increases.
It really needs an AF assist light for focussing!
Poor movie mode - only 10fps and no sound.
Despite its limitations its been a good reliable big zoom camera for mainly outdoor shooting
