Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 review
Jul 24, 2008

- 25mm lens
- Solid construction, quality feel
- Touchscreen not OTT
- Intuitive operation
- PASM modes
- Picture adjustment (e.g. dial down noise reduction)
- Quick Menu (would be great if this were customizable)
- Low-light/indoor handheld pics surprisingly good
- OIS very effective, giving sharp shots even at 1/4 sec.
- Balanced flash, does not wash out faces
- Good value (in Singapore)
- Mechanical smoothness

- No quick review mode
- Shortish battery life
- Some ugly yellow splotches at higher ISOs but not as bad as FZ18
- Horrible lens flare in night shots with lamps/lights
- Mediocre macro mode
- Easy to confuse On/Off switch with Playback/Capture
- Inaccurate AWB; WB settings a bit limited
- Touch screen sometimes needs fairly hefty shove
- Poor colour and resolution at full optical zoom
- LCD a bit low-res
- Pictures not as sharp as expected
