Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 review
After six Canon PowerShots this is my first non-Canon digital camera. I was forced to buy something because I had some problems with my Canon SD700 IS, the first time I have a problem with a Canon. I wanted a wide-angle lens, at least 4x optical zoom, IS, and 16:9 mode. For some reason I rejected the year-old SD870 IS even though it was available cheap and went with the Panasonic. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros: manual controls (fiddly,) great zoom range, good lens, HD movies, HD-out (with optional cable,) IS works.
Cons: images not as sharp as they should be, images overprocessed, camera much slower than my 2 1/2 year old Canon, feels large due to square shape, expensive compared to similar Canons, can't set self-timer to arbitrary time, no intervalometer, orientation of display doesn't change in review mode when camera is turned, no easy way to access clock.
Overall I am very disappointed. I'll switch back to Canon as soon as I see the specs of the successor to the SD870 IS.
