Pentax Optio P70 review
Mar 15, 2009

If you are in the market for a capable but portable and easy to use camera, let this
the one that attracts your attention first: it has a wide angle zoom with sensor shift
image stabilisation system, knows HD movie (although at 15 fps rate), has an
excellent IQ and is all in all straight forward to use.

Pentax has given its' latest Optio all the attention in the image quality department
and the output of this little camera is, given it's price tag and 12 MP sensor, simply
stunning. IQ is simply as good as (if not better) than the Fuji F100, which should
say sth. Even at ISO 1600, pictures are nicely sharp with nothing that hints at
excessive noise or excessive noise reduction. They did a brilliant job in that
department, the fellows of Pentax.

It comes with a downgrade though: while the camera is quite snappy at taking
pictures (AF is a lot faste than previous Optio's and the time lag is reduced to a
minimum, it takes it time writing the images (presumably to process the best IQ
possible), which can be annoying at times. Just put the camera in continuous
shooting and it shouldn't be too much a problem.

The other downside is the LCD: it's not high resolution and can sometimes be hard
to see in harsh sunlight...

+ Image quality best in its' class
+ easy to use
+ fast

- writing images to the memory card takes its' time
- LCD not too good
- no manual controls

Problems:

None
