8MM - Share yours

Picked up a lightly used 8MM, this lens is becoming one of my favorite toys - it's not a lens that is talked about much - would love to see shots from others taken with this little gem.  Here a couple with no PP.

I'm still learning how to use the fish eye - definitely a little different than a regular lens - one thing I'm finding is it is teaching me to look at the edges of the view finder and the composition of my other photos is getting better -

There are four of the Zuiko Digital lenses I do not have, and this is one of those.  Yours give a solid example of the lens' capabilities.  Thank you for sharing these.

It's an interesting lens, isn't it?

8FE on 4/3 is a much milder effect that 8FE on FF, and I rather like that. It's more 'slightly suspicious' than 'really fishy'. Actually, if you keep straight lines off of the prime axes, it's more ultrawide than fisheye. For sure, the price is right these days.

Just one I caught recently... Nigel the puppy, getting curious about that black thing with the shiny circle in the middle that I was holding, and I had to move quickly to avoid getting the objective smeared with doggy snot. In this case, the fisheye effect isn't particularly pronounced on anything but straight lines - the edge of the house.

The second shot is another matter. I have been struggling with redwood trees and the 8mm for a while now.  One day I will get it right.  The fisheye has some potential in the forest, I just have to find a way to tap into it.

Always fun and challenging

The 8mm fish eye always goes with me in my bag. Sometimes when I just can't get enthused it gives me inspiration. I'm so happy I bought it. Rich

This first version of the sculpture is with ZD 14-54 at 54mm so you can see what the 8mm did with it in the next picture. Low light, on tripod.

A very large redwood simply called "Big Tree".  It's one of the largest.

The 8mm turns out to be the perfect lens for shooting inside a lighthouse.

Yours truly, inside a very large redwood. Camera on tripod, just 20 inches from the tree.

I use that lens probably more than is healthy (NEVER de-fished)

Using it for landscapes and stuff is cool, but don't be afraid to get really close with it.

Is 7.5 mm OK?

I know, this is the 43-site, not m43. Most of my work is 43ds, so ...

Re: 8MM - Share yours

Here is a selection of photos I took with my E-1 + DZ 8 mm. These aren't high art, but I like them anyway.

Shiloh Battlefield, Tennessee: Iowa monument

Shiloh Battlefield, Tennessee: Church ceiling.

Mt. St. Helens, Washington.

Yosemite National Park: East end of Yosemite Valley from Glacier Point. With this perspective, I can get Yosemite Falls (upper left) and Nevada Fall (lower right) in the same shot. The two waterfalls are about 165° apart. Other sights are Half Dome, Royal Arches, Tenaya Canyon, Curry Village, Ahwahnee Hotel, etc.

Juneau, Alaska: Cruise harbor from the Mt. Roberts tramway.

Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska: View from the deck of Cruise West's Spirit of Yorktown.

Glacier Bay, Alaska: Mt. Barnard on the US/Canada border in the early morning fog.

AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA: Game 2 of the 2010 World Series
