What is the bracketing on the d5200?

Can someone please confirm the auto bracketing setup on the D5200

Is it like say the D70s where you can do 3 exposures, normal. 2stops under and 2stops over exposed?

Thanks

It takes 2 images up to 3EV apart.  You dont really need 3 images for HDR - its like mixing black and white to get every shade of grey in between

You seem to be referring to the HDR mode, but the OP is asking about exposure bracketing. Nikon says this about the exposure bracketing feature:

"Exposure bracketing - 3 shots in steps of 1/3 or 1/2 EV"

Basically you set the camera to however far you want to bracket, say 2/3EV, and it takes three shots, at -2/3EV, 0 and +2/3 EV. Only three shots, no matter how far apart you bracket. Haven't played a lot with it myself.

There's also an in-camera HDR mode that I haven't touched yet that produces only JPG files that looks very adjustable.

"Exposure bracketing - 3 shots in steps of 1/3 or 1/2 EV

If that's true, man, that is pitiful!!!  A full 1-stop range for bracketing?!?

You can set how far the bracketing goes. I don't have the camera on me right now and I can't find the range in the reference PDF but I know I want to say it goes up to +/-2 EV. But again, it only takes 3 shots no matter what.

It'll also bracket based on some other parameters, such as white balance or D-Lighting but that's always "fix it in post" territory for me anyway so eh.

Would it be possible to do this manually on my D3100 then use software on PC to combine these or must it be in camera feature for it to work correctly?

Page 84 of the D5200 manual:

"4 Select a bracketing increment.
Highlight a bracketing increment and press OK.
Choose from values between 0.3 and 2 EV (AE
bracketing) or 1 to 3 (WB bracketing), or select

Many thanks Patco

From what I read from the above, I should be able to shot with AE bracketing a set of 3 images, normal, 2ev under and 2ev over... Not great but still useable for my needs
