Re: Got my VCL-ECU ultra wide angle converter

@ f/22 it is most likely sensor dust we see. Still, a cool photo!

It is rain drops. I biked 3 miles (and 3 miles back) in light poring rain and 2 feet snow to take this This is a regular spot of mine in summer, but when I see the place through the window of my bus now, it looked totally out of the world. Me, camera, bike, everything was soaked. I managed to click by covering it with my jacket, but still the wind played and had water drops on my lens

Nice picture, JayDreamer...

...though, I'm not sure why you used such a small aperture - f/22?

Anyway. e16/2.8+UWA is a surprisingly good combo! Here is my modest test:

e16/2.8+UWA test

cheers,

Ari

Really like this, what was your post?  I have both the wide and fisheye adapters, IMHO, the best buy in photography that I can remember.

Re: Got my VCL-ECU ultra wide angle converter

As you can see, changing the saturation levels mainly for sky part and the building part with graduated filter in LR, with some enhancement in contrast and shadows, then DeNoize. I never follow any hard and fast rule or presets, jut follow what's good for my eye and stops there

Rain - hopefully - did not get to the sensor, and the noodles ARE dust on the sensor. Incidentally there is no evidence the lens was wet from this picture,

Yes, you got max DOF but also max diffraction softness and so the pic came out very dreamy, soft, unsharp just as you wanted, I hope.

Go look up the DOF master (google) and type in your lens data to see what DOF f/8 would

have given you. I bet it would be from 2-3 feet out to infinity. Would that not have sufficed?

Anyway a nice arty picture. What is that 'ball' in the center? a rock, a ball of garbage? ....

Looks like again taken at f/22? To unsharpen and soft out everything by design.

Have you ever tried a pinhole? They are at around f/150 and thus make much dreamier pics even than these are. Dream on!

Re: Got my VCL-ECU ultra wide angle converter

No, the second picture is f/4, Shutter speed 1/1250 and at focal length of 16mm, and I always shoot RAW. Here I didn't want the max possible DOF as the main emphasis is on the building. But regarding the first pic I wanted it. I wanted the foot steps to the horizon in focus.

That sphere is a sculpture installed by City park dept. It didn't look so dreamy in summer and there are people near it always. But in winter, in the middle of snow, it is just out of the world

Yes, I like to work on the pictures and dramatize it a bit. That is what I concentrate on. My pictures are not too picture or photographic perfect, but I see them as a result of shoot + art work to satisfy my own taste. I am a fan of surrealism and magical realism

Re: Nice picture, JayDreamer...

Both pictures are taken with the same camera and the same lens, the second one a week after the first one, on a non-rainy day. And I hope there is no sensor dust. May be it could be a combination of rain drops, dirt, snow crystals falling, processing errors etc...!!

The sky looks black and white in the shot of the building, I thought you had done some selective b&w.

Re: with UWA visiting Macau
1

I am quite happy with my recent purchases of UWA.  I used it quite a bit in my recent trip in visiting family in Macau and Hong Kong. I bring the UWA, 16, 30, 50 and the 18-55 kit.  With the UWA, I seldom find myself using the 16mm alone but rather in 12mm with the UWA 0.75x converter. At first, I have my suspicion with all the good praises but I am a believer now rather than a doubter as the $99 uwa is worth every penny if you ask me for recommendation.

Hin

I like this shot a lot.  Is it sunset timing?   The orange and blue sky color is quite dramatic.

Thanks,

Hin

Re: with UWA visiting Macau

Yes, close to sunset time. Sun is on the opposite side and that gives a good orange / red spread on horizon. Here is the sunset at the same time
