Can anyone provide some sample imsages which:

  1. show off corner to corner sharpness; and
  2. resolution?

In particular I want to see how it fares about Nexs and Fuji

Thanks

I can't tell you how many cameras I've compared my 4/3 to in the past few months thinking I had to go with a "bigger" name.  Each one had a negative that the 4/3 didn't have.  The biggest one was getting a full size Sony and the thought of lugging that around ...I just wouldn't.  The canon rebel as well.  Both took nice pics but not any more good than my 4/3.

Infact I was so impressed with the E-PL1 that I upgraded to the OMD EM5, and that camera goes every where with me.  That camera offers quite a few conveniences too, leaves alot of easy buttons and such to put your custom settings in .

Go to the studio comparison on this site and plug in 4 cameras to compare, and you will see why I chose it.  My 4/3 can't be beat.  I have a few pictures in my gallery so you can see what I mean.

Looking at the X-E1 vs the OMD it seems perculiar that the OMD is sharper?

Don't know what exactly tell you about this. I think it is better for you to read more, reviews, articles, opinions .... I can say that cameras and lenses are very good and the choice of both is wide.

What I see is more and more people leaving DSLR's and buying Micro 4/3. The size is one of the factors and like IQ is good, I don't see any reason for not trying. Time is always a good mentor.

I can show you some pictures here taken with my cameras. But I am not trying to convince you, just showing and you decide.

For MFT, it is the Olympus 50/2 macro for four-thirds, not any of the native micro-four-thirds lenses. If you want to compare sample images of the kind you ask for, look at the lens test sites, e.g., Lenstip, SLRgear, Photozone, and ephotozine.

Why should i convince you to go mFT?
In reply to zenpmd, 4 months ago

Imo it is much better if you continue comparing according to what is important for you end in the end come to your own conclusion.

Regarding the lenses, there are several sites where mFT lenses are tested, you can start here on dpr.

And you need to distinguish between mFT (mirrorless) and FT (DSLRs), since you mention the OM-D E-M5 you are probably talking about mFT.

Do you have any reasons to consider MFT? Are you unhappy with your current Fuji X-E1?

Once you answered those questions, perhaps one is more inclined to help with your needs.

Cheers,

Based on what you are looking for, the DP2M is the ultimate camera for you. It has max corner sharpness and resolution.

I'll shoot this dog if you don't.
In reply to zenpmd, 4 months ago

Sorry, no shots of the dog showing corner sharpness.   You'll have to trust me, she's cute.

Or, you can find out what camera you prefer by doing the legwork everyone else has to do for themselves.   Once you narrow your selection down to 2-3 bodies, and have everything else sorted out except for a few particular concerns, maybe help on those particulars can be found here.

I think (ie, in my limited experience) both corner to corner sharpness and resolution have a lot to do with the lens, and the f stop used.  The sensor has some effect, but if the lens isn't really excellent it may not be the limiting factor.

So, what pictures would you like to see? Kit lens?  Or Leica 25mm f/1.4 at say f/2.8?

Based on what you are looking for, the DP2M is the ultimate camera for you. It has max corner sharpness and resolution.

1. Sharpness depends mostly on the lens and the ISO, but also on the sensor;
With the 1,7/20, 1,8/75, 3,5/7,5 you can get the best resolution, if you use the E-M5, E-PL5 or the GH3, also with the 1,8/25 and NEX7 and 1,4/35 and xe-1 and xpro-1.

2. Resolution: see 1.

3. There are hundreds of criteria for the quality and usability of a camera.
Sigala1's suggestion is sensible, if you are only interested in resolution and nothing else. However, you have to limit yourself however in speed (I should guess: 8 frames per hour according to a youtube comparison of the Sigma and the Nikon D800).

My concern with the Fuji is basically lack of weather sealing. Its an expensive camera, and I want to take it to some far out places. Travel photography is my main interest, as is landscape.

I also find the AF a bit slow on the Fuji but I also think that putting in body IS into a mirrorless offering is a very good idea - being able to use stabilised primes is surely a good idea.

However, I like its ergonomics, but the latest OMD deal is free with the battery grip here in the UK and that has made me think twice!

I also use the GH2 for video and in an ideal world I'd only be invested in one system. However, I have been blown away by the detail coming from my Fuji. Like the shot sbelow

I think you need to work out what you want it for, for me iq is good enough and size and weight are massive wins. I tried Nex but the lenses are comparitively large, fuji doesnt have enough lens options for me yet.

You mean detail like that shown in the samples from DPR's review? See here:

All of these cameras can give cause for complaint, but they also all, if you know their strengths and weaknesses (and how to compensate), are quite capable of outstanding results. It's part feature set, part their approach on accessing features and control of them, and part ergonomics. All are subjective considerations.  But then there's also the format one is buying into, and that has a lot to do with the lens lineup for the format.

I've stopped looking at other cameras and anticipating what's to come since acquiring the E-M5. For what I do the camera isn't the limitation. I'm not sure the same can't be said for the others you have in mind, though

I'm still learning, but I think this was a surprised sharpness to me... jpeg only, no editing yet, i'd imagine it will be better when I learn how to deal with RAW.  Oh and of course, it's weather sealed
