Camino de Santiago de Compostela
In reply to SLOtographer, 4 months ago

The Camino de Santiago (St James' Way) are the pilgrims' routes across Northern Spain, the most popular one starting in SW France . Some do it as one long hike or bike ride stopping at hostels on the way; others start nearer Santiago. Weather can be very changeable - snow/rain in winter; high temperatures in summer. To gain the official certificate they must walk a minimum of 100km or ride 200km, and get their camino passport stamped along the way.

These photos are from a short section in Lugo province with OM-D and 9-18mm or 12mm (sorry can't access gallery so no EXIF):

The last(?) of the snow - altitude 1300m

Traditional thatched barn

Alternative design

Pilgrims' statue

Changeable weather

The Abbey of Samos monastery

Samos village

River Sarria, Samos - 90+sec. exposure

Clock tower, Samos - traditional glazed balconies due to inclement weather

Visited the Alamo in 1980 when there were few facilities; looks like things have progressed since then. Good captures

A Snake and a Long Lunch
In reply to SLOtographer, 4 months ago

The snake is Chinese of course, this one made from grasses by a roadside artist a long time ago. It is now the Year of the Snake and the Snake follows on from the Dragon....with these two dragons representing two grandchildren from the last two dragons...the pure white one being only 10 days old. The Chinese for dragon is "long". (the dragons are, of course the heads of Chinese dragon kites, the big one being about 150ft long)

Yesterday....being Friday, demanded a long lunch.....but we refrained from eating snake.

The processing is very interesting indeed. One day I need to visit Calgary. Looks like a city on the move.

You have some wonderful images in your pbase galleries. It is full of great regional images.

Dusk, Vunakabi Village, Rabaul, last night
In reply to SLOtographer, 4 months ago

I love these slim, straight Areca (betel nut) palms with their raggy, squared off leaves and frill of fruit below the crown. I'm pretty fond of these sunsets too! Grabbed this shot just across the road from where I live. It's our view. Pretty much OOC, sunlight setting. I also posted this pic in the palm trees thread.

Kids climb the palms to harvest the betel nuts. Just tie your feet together with a bit of vine or fibre of cloth so you can get a grip, and up you go!

Two examples using my favorite lenses -- the Panny 14 and the Oly 40-150 on the E-PL3.

Cheers, geoff

A little exercise in both motion blur and clarity.

Composite of two shots, first one at the start of the race ("Attention!") when no one is moving, the second shot right after the start of the race ("Row!) with the athletes in motion. Both images at 1.3" shutter speed ISO 160. Layered, cut & paste using GIMP. Lens is a Nikkor-S 50mm 1.4
